Alexin reply to: BMW 850R Roadster #5547Are the headers stainless steel? I am sure they’ll give you many years of service, but it will also provide you with the excuse to fit some Neptune pipes in the future.
in reply to: Importing a bike from Germany #5538The tax free euro price works out to NZD $16698 at the current rate. Quite a saving. Which bike will you buy? I hope NZ customs won’t spoil the party too much. Sounds like you’ll be getting a free trip and holiday for the difference. Good luck 🙂
in reply to: Importing a bike from Germany #5536A $15000 price difference seem s a bit high, I assume you mean $1500?
I'd be happyto help, but I am not up to date with current conditions.
Cheers,
Alexin reply to: BMW 850R Roadster #5545A lot of people rate the 850 engine over the 1150. It is supposed to be smoother, the difference in power is marginal in the real world. DIY servicing is easy on the boxer engine. Keep an eye out for leaky shaft drives.
You will find the bike reliable, but that will also depend on its history.in reply to: Brake Pads Again #5531Dodgy1 wrote:The brake pads on my 650 GS are squeelin like crazy. Inspectoin revealed plenty of wear left yet so thats not the problem…..apart from not needing brakes….can anyone help??? cheers Mal
You could take the pads out and slightly bevel the leading edge with a file or sandpaper. There is also a special heat resistant grease available that you use on the back of the pad, under the shim. This should work for a while.
Also, when you do use the brakes, be a bit more firm with them, rather than drifting to a stop, this should also reduce glazing.
Do you have BMW pads?in reply to: Importing a bike from Germany #5534It’s hard to say if it’s worth it in financial terms. There is not much of a price difference. You probably won’t have to pay the German GST of 16%, but you’ll probably end up paying import duty in NZ. They’ll fit some sort of export plate to the bike, from memory it’s oval.
However, picking up your own bike from the factory and riding it around Europe will be a special memory.in reply to: Personal messages #5529You need to select the notification option under ‘profile’. The evil face must have been a left over from when the filmed the LOFTR.
I guess we could do with an image update. Perhaps we could get people to make submissions. All we need is a few good ideas.in reply to: Thought i’d sign up and say hello. #5504http://www.jbinsurance.co.nz/newsite/homepage/index.htm John Baker will sort out your insurance. Sorry , but I will be out of town on these dates, so I can’t help you with the uncrating.

Alexin reply to: Do you like this? #5524Does it do wheelies? Do you have a link to the bike? It looks interesting. I wonder what the service live of a fuel cell is. Das the hydrogen come from water?[/img]
in reply to: Thought i’d sign up and say hello. #5501Welcome to the forum Harvey. You’ll miss all the fun on the weekend, but you should come on the club ride on the 20th. I am sure you’ll be able to get some good advice regarding routes etc.
4 month is a decent length of time and you'll be able to see more of the country than most locals have.
Cheers,
Alexin reply to: 1200LT for the senior memers #5500From memory they want $6000 for the little add on. If you have short legs and want to ride an LT, it’s the way to go
in reply to: How to make the bike seat higher? #5488It may be possible to fit a peg lowering kit. This should achieve the same as a taller seat and can be swapped back out when the bike is being sold.
in reply to: 1200GS Adventure #5466Looks pretty good, I see that they’ve retained a split seat. Don’t think that those crashbars would very effective. All they’s do is jam themselves against the tank. The extra bulk of the tank gives it a bit more presence compared to the standard version. Any news on the brakes?
in reply to: April weather #5483That online membership set up is on hold due to a shortage of static IP addressed in NZ. At least that’s what I’ve been told. As soon as we get one it’s all go, unless of course the new comittee decides otherwise.
