    Hi Jim,
this would have been a good ride to go on, but it's too short notice. We'll go for a shortish ride tomorrow, followed by longer one on Sunday, maybe the Wellsford loop. They will then ride down to Flock Hill and have a llok around the South Island after that. Tommy and Rosa will be staying here for about 3 month. Hopefully they'll be able to join a few Cool rides during that time.

    Cheers,
    Alex

Tommy and Rosa got their bike past MAF today and thanks to Martyn they were allowed to assemble them on site.

They then had some new tyres fitted to their bikes. I've never seen a front tyre that had worn like theirs. TKC knobs alternate between a single and a twin knob. Interestlingly enough the twin knobs were almost conletely gone, while the single knob in middle still had a decent height. Cycletreads came through with a good price.

They've got an amazing amount of gear with them. I am sure there is a kitchen sink in there somewhere.

I use it on the car and it’s great. I tried a little on my Shoei visor and it started to craze the plastic so dont use it.
Andy King, of 18x Rusty 1000 miler fame said that a very fine spray of 100:1 dishwashing liquid / water works. Next year he will rig a windscreen washer pump and reservoir, aimed at his visor from the top of the screen......

From what I've read it does affect some visors, but not all of them. I have a spare visor that I can use to field test. Now all I need to do is to find a place that sells the stuff. You'll know that I am ready to test, when the rain suddenly stops for the next two weeks.

    Hi Garry,
we're booked into a Hostel in Wanganui. Looks like we'll be missing out on some roads because of it. Maybe we'll catch it on the return trip.

Thanks for the offer. You should make an effort to ride down. Probably not such a big deal for you anymore. For Gerda and I it will be our first big trip on the bikes.

    Cheers,
    Alex

Thankks for that guys. Been riding in the rain quite a bit lately. I am starting to enjoy it. But a couple of days ago I got caught in a real down pour on the motorway all I could do was to guess the general direction and keep going.

Don't want to face the same again on the way south to the Rally.

This looks really interesting. I don’t think it would be able to provide any face or wind protection in its current form. However, I could imagine a helmet with a combination of soft and hard parts.

I don't get the reference to ear plug manufacturers. Surely this sort f helmet would reduce wind noise.

Hi All, Me again. Ok, I found a place that has a Bandit 600 for rent for a much more reasonable price. I still want to meet up though… If I’m not on a Bimmer, can we still be friends? 😀

We're all BMW snobs here , but we'll make an exception for you. 😆
Don't tell anyone though, we've got a public perception to uphold. 😉

Looking forward to meeting you, hope you'll enjoy your stay.

I went on the Wanganui river road once on my K75S, wasn’t long before I ended up sitting next to the bike. That sort of spoiled the rest of the ride for me. I’ll have to have another go on my GS.

    Thanks for posting the pictures

The reason I wrote this is because I know that the road was in excellent condition prior to the logging on top of that hill. I am sure that the roading charges that trucks pay do not make up for the damage trucks cause, be it logging or general transport. In the mean time the rail system is being underutilized.

Reads to me like you might own some trees yourself :-)? I am not a great fan of trucks, although I know that we would struggle without them.

On the otherhand it could be that the roads were substandard to begin with. Considering that there is no frost to speak of, these roads should last forever.

New Zealand businesses do have a history of taking advantage of monopolies to the detriment of their fellow countrymen. People who plant trees do it for potential profit. They take a risk, they expect to make money. I am not about to feel sorry for them if they get their timing wrong.

Bottom line is that the roads are in a pitiful condition and I doubt that the cars were the culprit.

Try the Motorcycle Surgery in Kingsland, they should be able to service the bike. I don’t think the readout is that important if there is no problem with the bike. You can always have that done later on. Seeing that you are overseas with your bike I can’t see how BMW would have an issue with this.
