in reply to: Oil changes #6439
Malcolm, what I had in mind was more a long the lines of using a couple of length of 200×50 stackedย so you could get 100mm of the ground. If you angle the ends and stagger them slightly it shouldn't be too hard to drive the car up. I used to lift the Porsche up onto axle stands for the oil change.ย Trolley jacks and axle stands can be had for cheap.
in reply to: Oil changes #6436Build yourself a little ramp so you can access the sump. In your case I would say it's easier to pay someone to do it. It's not like you have to do it that often.
Looks like another good ride. I'll take this opportunity to introduce Gerda's new 2nd bike
Alex - nice looking XR for Gerda. Between you, you have some interesting bikes in your stable. How's the R80 G/S Basic working out? Are you still enjoying your R1150GS? Cheers Aslanย ๐
The bikes compliment each other well, but space is starting to run out. We don't have the key for the Xr yet, so we don't know what it's like. The courier has dropped the ball.

in reply to: Pauanui Ride November 06 #6422I would have loved to come, but had to spend the weekend in Wellywood (work related). Neat picture. Who was on the black 1100GS?
in reply to: BMW Motorcycle Chopper #6415Cool bike, I like it
in reply to: You are all special #6417I am glad you mate was found, good effort. I can relate to the brain fade thing, It is been a regular occurence lately.ย ๐
In the most recent newsletter John Wutts has put forward an idea to change the Exec and Committee structure required to make decisions though the year and I've also heard murmurings about changes to constitutional rules and the like. I have no problem with any of this stuff - it's called progress - but the Exec team need to deal with it and deal with it within the current rules of the Register. Otherwise - you do tend to get ambushed at AGMs.
I have read John's comments and he has valid points. It has been difficult to achieve any sort of continuity due to the fact that President and the Secretary are currently being replaced at the same time. I believe what we currently have is a lack of communication.ย If members or areas have an issue they should contact the executive in order to have it sorted. Perhaps we need to set up a survey for all areas to fill in and send to the executive, on paper of course. My expectations of the Register aren't very demanding. I enjoy going on the Register rides and attending Register events. I enjoy the newsletter when it arrives and look forward to the ride reports. I am not too concerned about the financial side of the Register. I am happy to pay $45 a year. The running of the club should be made a easy as possible for the executive and if that mean spending a bit more money, so be it. I've had to pick up and return the key for the club rooms at every monthly meeting. That was an hour just driving around. The Register only works with volunteers. As far as I can tell nobody is taking advantage of the system and is gaining any personal benefits. None of the people I know are short of riding buddies, that's why I am concerned that if people are too demanding at short notice it will put off any potential volunteers. Life is hard enough during the week without having to deal with conflict in my personal time.
in reply to: GS 1150 windscreens #6375I replaced the stock screen of my GS with the Adventure screen. My local BMW put together a bracket kit to use with the Adventure screen. ๐When I bought my Adventure I replaced the screen with a after market one, bigger and wider.
It must look like a car windscreen now ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐
Have you met Tharon? He is a big man and makes the GS look like a toy bike. I don't blame him for wanting a larger screen.
Maby he listens to his members and what they want ๐That is why BMW is so big there and the meetings are well attended. ๐ฎ
Look this exactly what we need, a productive discussion during the year, instead of a duck shoot at the AGM. There are too many Luddites in the club , who don't like to use the internet. It wouldn't be too hard to set up a members only area in the forum to discuss these issues in private. How did the size of your local club compare with ours? We are only small fry here. I think that we could do more to attract new members, as the long term future of the club depends on it. A sizeable membership has significantly more clout when it comes to attracting sponsorships for events.
in reply to: GS 1150 windscreens #6371I've removed the wind screen on my bike and I haven't had the urge to put it back on. The panel above the instruments is sufficient to take the pressure of your chest. You will find the standard screen works best tilted to its lowest position. There are larger aftermarket screens available and then of course there is the RT.Cheers,Alex
in reply to: Cape Rienga and 90 Mile Beach #6356Hi John,I guess the Basic would have been mine, I suppose it is still in good nick for its age. Cycletreads fitted Michelin T63 front and rear for me. The tyres worked well on the Kaipara 200, I even managed to get on and off the beach without tipping over and that includes a lengthy run over a sand dune. I will probably stay away form the beach from now on, the sand and salt are hard on the bike and the 2 hour cleaning job that followed was hard on me. I was thnking along the lines of a day ride for you and maybe a three day ride for anyone else who is keen. My parents are coming this year, so we've booked a bach in Hihi for 10 days. We will most likely take the bikes up, this could be an opportunity to explore a little bit.
in reply to: Small addition to the fleet #6338We just bought the GS, so there will be no ditching. However, the 944 has found a new home so I have all this bike space available…..My daughter is fuming as she had her eyes set on it for her car.
Hi Garry, thanks for an excellent report. I had been wondering how you guys got on. Oscar did mention the group had a moment of flatulence at a certain intersection north of Awakino for me. I wish I had more time for riding. Been good to see you and the other guys again next time your up here we'll organize a bbq at my place.Cheers,Alex
in reply to: Cape Rienga and 90 Mile Beach #6354Hi John, thanks for the report. It's about time we got the advenbture rider momentum going in this forum. You guys have an interesting mix of bikes, now that I think about it I've got almost the same parked in my garage, only the F650 isn't a Dakar. We must organize a northern gravel ride this summer, I am sure some of the Auckland boys would be keen and with your local knowledge we'd have a blast.Cheers,Alex
