Great shots Jim and Neko. Here is the misssing extirior of the methodist church in Mangonui.
in reply to: Cook Strait Ferry #6748I've only done one return trip using the Interislander. It pays to have your own tie downs, theirs are filthy. Place the bike on the side stand so you can compress the suspension as you tie it down. They place a chain across the front of the bikes to give you attachment points. Keep an eye on this, as the tension constantly changes as other people tie up their bikes. Also keep an eye on who's tied up next to you, you may want to check that their bike is stable. I've had to tie two bikes down, and it seemed like I was halfway across the pond before I was done. Good luck and enjoy your trip.
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5093Here is my collection from up north. The first three are between Taipa and Awanui. The next two are between Whangaroa and Tauranga BayThe next on is in Totara North, it's for sale with the section out front $128000, it's beyond repair. This one is the old Methodist Church in Mangonui, you'll find it behind the BP.From the insideI'e got another one from the side which is quite good, but needs to be uploaded from my laptop. If I get around to it I will zoom in on some them and crop the essentials.
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5089Well done Jim, the collection is growing. I managed to get a few shots up North and will post them in the next couple of days. We'll have to organize a “best of” selection and come up with a prize for the winner. I'll just have to figure out how manage the voting.
in reply to: Gravel to Gladstone #6719Looks like you guys had a great time. Looks like there is plenty of good riding in the North. I took the Basic up to Hihi with the intention of doing some gravel riding as well as meeting up with John C. The weather was marginal at times, but we still got most of the beach stuff done. Didn;t manage to meet up with John, due to my neglect of the cell phone, I still struggle with these things, out of sight out of mind. Got one gravel stretch done and the Basic started to ring. Couldn't work out what it was until later, when I spotted the lose headers, both were about ready to fall off. With no tool to fix this I was left to giving them a kick every now an then, I also found out that these things get kinda hot, who would have thought? Thank God for gloves. Got plenty of old houses and will update soon.
in reply to: Returning to the Home page #6686Malcolm, unfortunately there is no direct link back to the website yet. I am not even sure if it can be included. I have added a short cut to my web browser that takes me to the website.
Stunnig scenery, the one thing we haven't got in Auckland is easy access to the South Island. We already seem to have the Wellington weather along with the wind. Thanks for the report Aslan, Gerda and I will have to ride some of these roads on the way to Alexandra next year.
in reply to: Gravel ride from Port Albert to Puhoi #6657Your ears recovered from the Scorpion zorst yet?
Only just recently. Your bike sounds good, but it pays to hang back a bit. You seemed to really enjoy its performance.
in reply to: Gravel to Raglan #6675I have no idea where that is, but will look it up on the map. I've got to say though that I don't like riding on the beach, mostly because of what the sand does to the bike.
in reply to: Coromandel Port Jackson ride #6679Looks like you guys had some fun. I've been on those roads a few months ago and can see how traffic would be a problem. The scenery is stunning.
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5083Well I guess it depends on your interpretation of "abandoned" Alex. I'm sure the land is owned by someone - but the building sure looks abandoned and uninhabited. If you think it's stretching the rules a bit you'd better take it out. 😐
Oh no, I am pleased you've posted it. Anyway, there are no real rules. If someone can be bothered to stop and photograph it it's in.I think it is one of the best looking buildings in the thread.
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5080Wow, this one looks too good to have been abandoned. What a neat looking building, surely they can't just let it go.
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5077Impressive collection Jim, this will be hard to beat.
