in reply to: Round trip of the South Island. #6924
Sounds good so far, more to come I hope?
in reply to: getting back into it… #6911That K75S is an excellent bike, 20000ks of those are mine. The suspension is near new and top of the line. Enjoy the ride, make sure you'll take it above 6000 revs a couple of times. There is plenty of life up there.
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5111I am sure people won't mind if you post some nice abandoned mud-brick houses.
in reply to: getting back into it… #6909I love my GS. The 1998 model is the one to get, it has all the upgrades as it is the last of the 1100 models. They also have a lower first gear and are very difficult to stall. Pillion comfort is excellent, have you seen the size of that pillion seat? However, if it is still on its original suspension you'll need to allow some money for that(I've just replaced my shocks this afternoon @ 54000km). Dealer service is expensive, but there is nothing difficult about these bikes. K bikes are good touring bikes, but not as flickable as the GS. The old K bikes are virtually bullet proof, but so is the oilhead engine. You'll really need to ride some bikes before pulling the trigger. Cheers,Alex
in reply to: getting back into it… #6906I've just had a look on trademe and it looks like you should be able to get a good bike in this price range. I've noticed an R1100GS and an R850R, both great bikes for your intended purpose. Of course if you are interested in K bikes it opens your choices right up. Experience Motorcycles is pretty good. They back up their bikes and give good service, but this is of course reflected in the margins. You would need to try out a few bikes to get the feel for what you want. Cheers,Alex
in reply to: getting back into it… #6904Welcome to the forum. I have no idea what your price range is, but I would suggest that you have a look at the 650 Funduro. The engine is virtually bullet proof and the performance is slightly better than the 800cc bikes from the mid 80's. If you are after a boxer you would be looking at around $5000 for a servicable bike. They need more service, but you could do that yourself. May I suggest that you come to the next Register meeting in Penrose and introduce yourself. You will get to meet a number of knowledgable people who shoulf be able to help you. My R80GS Basic from 1996 shows 4800km (104800). The only clockwinding you'll usually see is when the counter ticks over to 000000. A sign that the bike has been used the way it should have been :-). I hope this helps a little bit, but I am sure you'll here from other people as well.
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5110We have mud brick, rammed earth and rock ones in the South look better that those leaky homes you have up Norf : 😎
This is all prime realestate, no wonder the South is lagging behind, caves have gone out with the hobbitses 😉
Surely a loud horn would be useful in there somewhere? 😀 No, I haven't been watching TV for a while, haven't missed it either. When did the Kumeu incident happen? It's bad enough when these squids damage themselves, but inexcusable if someone else gets hurt. But you are right, we're in it for the adrenalin. I do enough stupid things without prompting, so I try not to initiate stunts on purpose.
in reply to: Yep, I went to Kawhia #6767Out of interest, where are these available from?
I found them here -> <a href="http://www.price.gmxhome.de/sternmutterersatz.html" class="bbcode_url">http://www.price.gmxhome.de/sternmutterersatz.htmlThe website is German, but the info has convinced me that it is viable. Big plus is that I won't need to carry special tools to work on the exhaust. On the otherhand, who ever needs to work on their exhaust anyway. Eventually my numbers will come through and I'll be able to put it back the way the BMW gods have intended it to be.
in reply to: Yep, I went to Kawhia #6765Thanks Garry. I won't need the spanner as the thread is totally stuffed. I have ordered this gadget It should be cheaper than having the thread rebuilt.
in reply to: Airhead brake upgrade #6600I actually don't use the brakes much unless having a yahoo, and to prove this have had the brake pads in the for 7 years on this brake mod. 👿
They don't wear much in the garage 👿 I've got 53000km on the same pads, still going strong. But after riding the Basic a bit faster I can see how better brakes could be helpful 😀
in reply to: Abandoned weatherboard buildings -Post them here- #5108A few more from today, they are still out there 🙂
in reply to: Westpac Run #6759As long as nobody falls off it will be fine. A couple of years ago some clown did impromptu burnouts in front of me and in the middle of the crowd.
