Alex & Darryl – thanks for your replies – I bit the bullet and ordered the kit from Beemer Boneyard http://www.beemerboneyard.com/11427673541mk.html since I was needing the filter removal tool as wellCheers Aslan aka Stephen O

OK – Greg (& Gremlin) – thanks to you both for your helpful comments about suspensionI'd better desist so as we can return to the original topic of welcoming Greg as a user of this forumGremlin are you mod on here? - this dialogue would be useful under a FAQs about suspension methinks - Cheers Stephen aka Aslan 🙂

again Greg – thanks for your note – I'll certainly seriously consider upgrading the stock shocks on my GS to Ohlins. Did you replace both on your ST or just the rear? Do you know - suppose one was to do only one at a time - spreading the expenditure - which would be the recommended one to do first?Cheers S

encouraging post Greg – I've had this obsession with the brand since the 60's as a teen in Dunedin and been spending too much money on them since '92 – K75, R65, R100GS, R1100GS, F650GS Dakar (to improve gravel / adv skills), R1150GS last 7 years and since November last 08 R1200GS – brings a huge smile to my face – loving the lighter weight and am inspired by your K's / service experience on your R12Lust after Ohlins - yet have trouble justifying them on my 20,000km machine - maybe later - spending the retirement / kids inheritanceMay meet you out there some time - Stephen aka Aslan

hi Gremlin – thanks for your response – certainly the cost of BMW rotors is not cheap. 'Steptoe' over on UKGSER seems to be a respected supplier of alternative rotors doubtless there are others – eg TouratechLook forward to meeting you some time - you intending to be at the Rag Rally? Cheers Stephen O aka AslanPS interestingly, IMO this board seems to have less active participants (as assumed from the # of views relative to responses) relative to other boards like KiwiBiker - where I realise you're a Mod (I'm an old rocker) 😉

Hello Aslan, what are you going to buy now? Sorry to hear about your shoulder. I am 3-1/2 months down now and itching to get back on the bike. I was thinking of getting the Kawasaki out of the shed but I promised her indoors I would stay off the bike for 6 months. They even gave me the Opps award for it. Really annoyed they didn't operate on mine but the orthopedic surgeon said he didn't repair broken collar bones and that was that. Last xrays showed it was starting to heel, still hurts in different positions. The ribs have been as bad as anything. Like the snap shot. Catch you out there again soon.boGSer

Apologies this is off topic I realise - boGSer, thanks for your note - good luckwith your healing and look forward to seeing you soon - my new ride is an 09 R1200GS - very pleasedGr82briding and others - re the insurance Q - I went with Protecta for cover for my new acquisitioncheers S

to all who've posted responses – thanks – looking to get more active in the Register – returning to the fold – accepting that I'm getting too old to keep up with the young bucks on events like the Dusty Butt and such like – at almost 65 my collar bone broken on the way to the DB is still not fully healed – 10 screws and metal plate holding it together – back to the topic – cheers S

Hi – thanks for posting – I'm currently looking to upgrade my GS with another and am considering comprehensive insurance – having previously carried much of the risk myself (third party only on my current machines)Your post about Protecta is helpful. Anyone else willing to chime in please with comment as to which insurance company is best - value, service considerations etcthanks in advance Aslan aka Stephen O
