simply to say – I respect Bwucie's viewpoint above – and his and other volunteer office bearers of the OR's efforts to ensure an interesting and stimulating Club. Arne has been attempting to stimulate interest at this site, and I salute his effortsMany younger riders - read sub late 60 year olds - don't see a need to belong to a Club. Many preferring instead to ride alone or link up with like minded riders via other less formal means. It seems to me - we all - as human beings with choice - gather where there are things that interest us. For me - my default forum is Adventure Rider.com (apologies in advance for being such a one eyed 'adventure' rider). There's lots on there about Oilheads, airheads, water-cooled current incarnation boxers and all manner of F & G series - with some K series getting a mention as well

for the short while I held the role of Area Coordinator (Wellington) in an attempt to attract a younger demographic i created a Facebook page – see link here https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWmotoswellingtonnz/You'll note I was careful to explain this in way purported to be the official FB page of BMWOR. That said, I'd be pleased to close this page or pass it for modification to the OR.Certainly, I'm of the view the OR has to adapt if it is to attract younger members. Another factor in addition to those identified by Colin above, in my view is that for many folks, membership of a club is unnecessary when they can link with like minded riders on sites such as adventure rider.com or kiwibikerPerhaps ironically - as age is catching up with me - I find myself more inclined to participate more actively in the register than attempting to keep up with the younger folks who use informal means like those I've mentioned in order to arrange 'rides'

artig – I just want to pop up again and salute you for the energy with which you're seeking to make the BMWOR NZ Web Site a place to go to for matters BMW (bike) and presumably generate some dialogue among members and other aficionados of the BMW Moto MarqueI just read the long term test / review article concerning the R1200GS WC - thanks

Thanks to you both Arne for your current commitment and Bwucie for your prior commitment as Webmaster.Rightly or wrongly I do have a concern about sustainability of the Register (frankly I think the name is a turn off) and ability to attract younger 'blood' for the future.

here's a link to a female BMW owner's Blog – this entry is about changing the oil and filter on a R1200GShttp://www.sheridesabeemer.com/2011/11/bmw-r1200gs-oil-change-tutorial.htmlAnother link of possible interest - Jim van Baden - I've purchased his maintenance DVD and used it to service my R1150GShttp://www.jvbproductions.comAnother one from JvB on ADV - Throttle Body Synch for an R1200GShttp://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=231335Anyone else like me - spend time on UKGSER and Adventure Rider .com - just curious since so few of us communicate on here - talking about Register members

Cheers Artig – thanks for taking over as Webmaster from Bwucie – thanks Bwucie for a job well doneIn my short time as 'co ordinator' for Wellington - I'd tried to engender some interest among owners of BMW's who for whatever reason either don't participate as members or for those who are non members, yet ride and own BMW's, who don't see merit in belonging to the Register.I created a an informal - local (as in Wellington) Facebook Page in an attempt to increase participation - link here https://www.facebook.com/groups/BMWmotoswellingtonnz/If you're going to be at the Annual Rally I look forward to having a natter - best wishes Stephen Oatley

Hi Artig – these items are 'good stuff' – seems to me incredibly hard to generate a response / participation from most of us members witness my post about the Annual Rally – who's going and offer of accommodationIs this a generational thing I wonder. I find other sites ADVRIDER and AusTouring, to cite two, have a far greater participation level. I acknowledge we're a relatively small community but I am bemused at how few of us seem to participate in dialogue

now that's helpful Scottmac – thanks for posting – I'll be in the market for a new front for my GS in the New Year – thinking of either a TKC90, Karoo 3 or the trusty Mitas E07 which I've already got 12,000km out of on the rear of my R12GS – none of which is relevant to RT riders I acknowledge – but I'm just keen to see usage of this site increase – my default options are ADVRIDER and UKGSER – cheers SPS my understanding is the TSS tend to meet the market - thinking Mitas here

Hi AndyH – thanks for posting your impressionsUntil a year ago I had an 1150GS and ran TKC 80 fronts and Tourance rear - quite okay for gravel riding IMO. On my current 1200GS I'm currently running a TKC80 front and a Mitas E07 (tubeless) on rear. Very happy with this combination. Will probably try a an E07 on the front when the current TKC is done. Also I may consider the Heidenau Scout - simply becuase the Mitas are becoming more expensive relatively to their earlier pricing.Like you I use a ligher machine (DR650) for serious advenutre / dual sport riding

Well done for remembering / picking him Alex – fond memories of a challenging and fun ride – he and I swapped bikes for a time – that's when my lust for KTM 99X began!

Hi Colin and Black RT – Colin you're incredibly modest about your mechanical skill – I know you've replaced starter motors on your R11XX 🙂As a gold card holder now - I'm simply trying to do the basics myself - for the satisfaction and cost containment 🙂As to Cape to Cape (West to East) - Labour Weekend (October '13) see link here on ADVRider http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=888538Colin - I'm very keen - have yet to negotiate a leave passMeantime - there's a Whanganui based Back Roads Riders event late this month that I plan on doing (both sides of the river) and other gravel - approx 300km total 80/20 seal / gravel mixcheers Stephen aka Aslan 🙂
