Just added a new front tyre to my spreadsheet that has all our vehicle maintenance on it: only started adding to the Sex Toy's bill in April this year after a few months where everything was up to date.Idly pulled the cursor down the column from April to today and hit "Autosum" - without considering fuel, oil and insurance: $5389.85.No wonder Joe and Joelene Public think motorcyclists are not fully rational!(Even the air in the bloody tyres is not free, I have to turn the compressor on if I want some of that, and that makes the eddy wheel in the power meter go faster!)

I've just had new brake pads fitted. Everything is bloody expensive. I still need a new front tyre and my shocks need a service. But hey, I haven't been changing bikes like some people do. Nothing is a bad as depreciation, my bike hasn't lost any value to me since I've bought it. I won't get full cover for the bike this year. If I hadn't paid any of that during the last 8 years, I'd have a pretty good deposit for a new bike right now. I've got to say that the fuel price have put a damper on my urge to ride for fun every weekend. I am filling up once a week as it is. So Bwucie, go and delete that spreadsheed, it will do you no good.

I've got a machine that makes compressed air for free Bwucie.  It just requires a little physical effort, and it's not very fast

Take heart in the fact that your other pastime the yak is almost cost free after the initial purchase.  Don't spread this around though otherwise the politicians and bureaucrats will find a way to penalize us quickly enough.

Bwucie, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with a running spreadsheet (fetish) to track expenditure on my favourite thing! Had my 30k service last weekend which only cost me $152.15. I say “only” because the next cheapest service was $375. I have realised that I can import OME consumables from the UK for about the same “cost + GST price” that Motomart pay the importer in NZ, the difference being the 40/50% mark up that Motomart add to the parts.  This means I’m getting OME parts at half the price that Motomart charge and they can’t compete. I’m all for keeping money in the local economy but like everyone else I have a finite income and the savings made are compelling.  Bwucie the hassles you have had with Experience and the conversations I have had with other  BMWOR members makes me think that as an organisation we should have the leverage to make change. It is my view, given that we have strength of numbers and as a collective we should be lobbying dealerships such as Experience and Motomart for discounted prices. This may have been tried before, I don't know.  Perhaps you can enlighten me?!Enough of my moaning! It’s Gr82briding

The bedside manner at Experience, and the organisation (or apparent lack of, sometimes) ain't too flash, to be sure.  But they did cut me a significant discount over parts and labour, did fix their cock-up on warranty, and did bring the job in under estimate.  From time to time I have bought in parts from the UK to supply for the job because the NZ price was ridiculous.I would have liked, for various reasons, to hang up the helmet earlier this year, but now I have a very expensive motorsickle that I am too scared to pass on to somebody else: I feel I would be very likely selling him/her a lemon, which I don't want on my conscience. The final drive adventures on my 1100s took me by surprise, but the clutch job was always going to happen, seems to be a fairly frequent problem on them, although the dealers will deny this.  Mine got done at the distance I have seen bandied about on various forums, and below the figure I expected it to cost.  (And it was VERY well poked!  Not far short of just free-wheeling round the input shaft without touching.)And the spreadsheet?  Well, I don't need to wander out to the garage to check relicensing dates, wof, when the next service is due etc.I'm not convinced that BMW's are any more expensive to run than other marques: they are too expensive to buy, but!
