I woudn't change the seat it's great.  For long trips a good sheepskin from Charman Motor Trimmers in Napier will enhance your/pillion comfort over many hours riding.  One other thing about a good sheepskin is that if it is wet the skin separates you and the puddle that otherwise would form in the seat so you actually keep drier.  Lastly the natural oilyness of the fleece repels the water and they dry out very quickly once on the run.  Save some money Tharon and buy a good skin  😆

In thinking about your last post I wonder how many riders that subscribe to this site have ever used a “Corbin or Sargent” seat.  I would hazard a guess  😕 at very few which is probably why no help.  You will of course get heaps of info from any one of a number of sites based around the world.  Good luck with your upgrade.

Ha, remember my first old R80RT Malcolm? It had a Corbin seat - really comfie, best thing that ever happened to it  😀

I do remember the old RT Garry.  I didn't realize it had a Corbin though.  I would have thought the 800 RT was just a really comfy bike whatever seat it had  😆  Honestly though how many riders in NZ would have experienced one aftermarket seat let alone be in a position to make a fair comparison between two or more?  Now from my readings of international BMW web sites it is almost given that one changes the seat along with a heap of other bits and pieces.  Riders in the states seem to customize their BMs as much as HD riders do theirs.  Having said all of that let's hope someone can help out with some actual experience for Tharon's request.

Have a look at the forums on http://bmwsporttouring.com/ The consensus there seems to be the best seat for long distances is the Russell Daylong saddle. Do a search for 'daylong' or 'day-long' or 'russell' and you'll get several threads. But make sure you set the search for a year or more back in time (default is 1 week). Although most comfortable some consider it to be one of the ugliest seats. The Russell website is at http://www.day-long.com/There are also a couple from the Mayer family, independently of each other, making comfortable seats. Search for 'mayer' on the forums.I don't know if any of them would accept an order from NZ.
