Wellington City Council will be taking a “less tolerant' view of Footpath parking shortly, I can't seem to shake a strong sense of deja-vu??!!http://www.wellington.govt.nz/news/display-item.php?id=3614Quite a thread going on Kiwibiker http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=106738

Interesting. Auckland has become tougher on bikes as well. I am lucky enough to be able to park less than 5m meters away from the entrance to my building, so I am not really affected by this, but I do take my chances elsewhere. It looks like bikes and scooters will continue to become more popular for commuting. It makes sense to me that they want to establish some sort of order before things get out of hand, which has been the usual approach (letting things get out of hand). Look what happened to cell phones and loud exhausts. It's much easier to control before it gets out of hand. On the other hand, they have an obligation to provide sufficient parking spaces for people who are already going out of their way to reduce the congestion on our roads. It's a little ironic that the Chinese have been abandoning their bicycles and scooter for cars, while we are going into the opposite direction (well, just a little :-).

I just wish with all of the parking for motorcycles that Wellington has, how is it that each time I head into town that I have to block cars in motorcycle parks… or is it that I'm looking for cars to block in.

It's certainly causing quite a stir amongst some of my biker colleagues. There is talk of staging a protest. What gets me though is why council hasn't thought to sit down with those affected to grind through some options. A good old think tank could go a long way and is a hell of a lot more proactive than a stand off.

Yep, a bit of consultation goes a long way. Sometime I get the feeling though, that it is just a process that they go through before they do what they want anyway.Btw, I only just now understood your username :-), it's quite clever.

I have found with the recent popularity of mopeds and scooters, there is now no room for everyone.
