Last time Mr A.N. Onymous (whom I hope is still OK, after the wife/partner/significant other worked out what all the gaffer tape decorating was all about!) got into the weeds, and we didn't quite get there.  So Sunday we will retread the run, starting from Bombay, and a wee bit earlier, and maybe cooler.Different route, avoiding THAT corner (although only one of us found it a problem), and heading over the Kopu/Hikuai, round the block back-hand to Waihi Beach, via Golden Valley (if I pick up the corner in time to turn off.)Bring ya togs.

Great ride with splashes. One missed corner. The nice new Kopu roundabout had Brucie dismapsic, we all saw the turn off for Tirua but most did the sheep thing and followed towards Paeroa. Two kingons today Trevor Godfrey on his new Ducati Multistrada and his friend  Robin who pillioned any spare bike.

An excellent 450km round trip to Waihi Beach via Kopu, Hikuai and Whangamata then back via the Karangahake Gorge and Paeroa. Bloody hot but great roads (including Koheroa Rd) and terrific company. Big thanks to Bwucie  8) and Uncamoose  8) for RIC and TEC duties.Cheers,Herr and Frau Baron.

Thanks Bruce and all who came along.  We stayed to eat with Tony and Arne then headed home via the K Gorge and Paeroa diverting across Hauraki Road through Turua to pick up the Thames road and scooted up the Miranda coastline to Beachlands to catch up with son in law who had been on an advanced course with the AMC at Puke.  He had a smile on his face and enjoyed the day but I'm sorry they have chosen to concentrate more on prospective racers and not so much on road riding.  No instruction on braking techniques nor emergency braking practice, or any counter steering.  The roads from Miranda were busy with wanabe racers, but not a lot of tin tops. Mostly they were parked up while the owners  languished on the beaches.  The Firth was in sparkling condition, what a paradise we live in.Thanks all for your company.Malcolm and Jean

Once again I am humbled by Bwucies intimate knowledge of his homeland, what a wonderful days riding,if only I knew which way I went I could repeat it one day Ha HaWhangamata is such a lovely place and is now on our weekend away list....All in all another great day out,I must admit though that the heat around late afternoon did start to get to me a little bit and I was certainly glad of team Red Barrons invitation to have a TEE PEE stop at their ranch before setting off back to the shore.Highlight of the day for me was having a lovely swim in the surf at Whaihi. The low point was watching the Red Barron have to take evasive action to avoid a blind tin top driver changing lanes on SHW 1,my heart skipped a beat for a second watching it unfold from behind, but Alex seemed unphased by it all and quite rightly says that if you read all signs on your approach to the vehicle you are overtaking then it can stand you in good stead for what could possibly happen and it did on this occasion.I must admit though Alex is a lot more forgiving than I am,I would have reported him for sure,I'm still going to name and shame him though !!!I nominate the driver of XO4287 white Mitzi Saloon for this weekends dickhead driver award !!!!Many thanks to Uncamouse for his shephearding efforts at the rear and taking point duty for a while too, also thanks to Tony for sparing a few of us corner marking duty with his remarkable skill for working his way back up to Bwucies tail light.RegardsRincewind

I saw a few cameras being flashed around, so I didn't bother taking mine out of the pannier.  BUT!  I still haven't seen any photos, apart from a couple Arne sent me.  (At least I think it was Arne: some fella that looked a helluva lot like him, but pedalling a pretty little Honda, not a Beemer.  No, it musta been the real deal, because he had some great suggestions for further sightseeing on some future trip, and as Arne has been everywhere and photographed every letterbox on a Rural Delivery in the entire North Island, it had to be him.)Tony would have had a fretful journey going to Waihi, once the previously melted patches started to glint in the sunlight again I dumped a lot of pace each time I encountered one - they scare the bejeezus out of me at the best of times, but I also had a pillion on, and being responsible for another SOB (soul on board) makes me even more cautious.  Even having said that, our two bikes seemed to stretch the bungee back to the third and subsequent bikes quite a way at times.  And I can pretty well guarantee that if Rincewind ever tries to follow Tony over the Ohura Road, he'll need to wind his wrist around further than he did to keep me in sight!  Waihi was as good as it gets, just enough surf to get Uncamoose and Bwucie going with their flippers and handskis, and a very pleasant water temperature.I've only got one word for fellas that take pictures that clearly establish I don't know how wide my gay-looking sideboxes are on the eleven-hundy (look gay, but do a good job carting my fins and handski  😀 ), "Bollards!"bollards.jpgPreparing for the great Waihi Drag Race: Team Red Baron are so convinced that Enzo the RS has the wood on Team Foley's flash newer GT they have granted them a handicap.dragrace.jpg
