Just opened my lovely little letter from the NZ Transport Agency informing me that they are going to start tolling me $2 each way to use the Northern Gateway from 1 June.Not me, they're not. 31 May I might go for my last ceremonial ride through it, after that it will be via Orewa every time.

Only been through 3 times, once with DTY's charity ride just before it opened and it was still classed as a private road, whee hee quite quick !!!  😀 and the last time going to the blues thingie at Devonport.Don't even go through in the car as the old route is very nice now with no traffic.So if they are waiting for money off me it will be a long time coming  👿

That's too bad.Honestly though, I can remember we were surprised when they had us make the signs say $0.00 for bikes.  It was only about two months before the motorway opened.  Until then, all the sign shop drawings said $2.00The coast road is nice.  Take a ride up Waiwera Rd and look at the bottom of the bridge.  It's just as impressive, and it's free!DTY

I came thru this morning in the cage… We paid same price as proposed for the bike… and twice as many wheels!! How can that be!Anyway, I haven't received a letter like Bruce so I guess I must be exempt.Presumably it means they'll have to put a whole bunch of new cameras facing the other way to snap the number plates... I guess it will make economic sense... mind you it was good while it lasted... I'm not complaining... nor will I do the coastal route when I'm taking BR4 or BR5 up north... ( or back from the north), unless I'm out on a Bwucie ticky- tour.
