    TK Backpackers, Te Kaha; Good basic accommodation available in two bunkrooms (heated) $20pp.  Toilet/shower facilities adequate, but would be overcrowded with a large numbers.    Best avoided when 'Kiwi Experience' tour visits thrice weekly, according to host.  Hosts very friendly with noisy kids; offer home cooked meal (dinner $25; B'fast $10).    Bikes accommodated undercover carport, but security virtually nil & easily accessible from road.

    Just 'around the corner' from Te Kaha (when I was capturing road information,) I stayed at the Hicks Bay Motel. It was featured on a TV reality series not so long ago. I enjoyed the stay there, and that was before the show. So it should only get better. It's on the main road and there are lots of rooms. I'd stay there again.
