We bumped into this American bloke while riding in Chile: http://radiomanridestheworld.com/He came with us as we worked our way down through Argentina to Ushuaia and he is now in NZ, currently in Milford Sounds. He rides a BMW 800GS and is pretty capable on the gravel.I am sorting out a route for him when he gets back to the NI. I thought: Welly - Gisborne - Motu Valley - Hicks Bay - Tolaga Bay - Wairoa - Waikaremoana - Rotorua - Tauranga - Coromandel Loop then up to Auckland. He has already ridden through the Far North and I took him through the Forgotten Highway and out via Tarata to Inglewood. Any comments? Suggestions? Advice? (Polite would be nice.) All appreciated.Kennif

If he wants some adventure there is stuff like North Range Rd.Vinegar Hill is nice, Desert Rd a very different terrain, plus has Tukino Ski Field access should he want. Around Ohingaiti you've got the cliffs beside the river, off to the east of the road, and Ruahine Rd, which looks pretty good.Don't know if you took him out Moki way in the Taranaki? Open source maps are very inaccurate in the region, but I'm doing a little each time I'm down that way.Waikaremoana and Motu are stunning, and I presume from the places you're sending him around East Cape?Make sure you send him through Waihi - Whangamata Rd, I'd rate it as one of the best bits of sealed road in the country. If he wants more gravel, you've got 309 Rd etc.
