Dick
you don't need one on an RT 😉Nobody bothered to answer, what was a reasonable question at the start of this tread
Radar Detectors .... GREAT, I have a Passport Escort 8500 and I won't leave home without it !!
I paid $1500 a few years ago ... now they are around $600 (bugger) but I assure you I HAVE saved more $$ than that
I use velcro in the map section of my tank bag and place it in there ... the Escort is small and has a socket to plug in a lead to a buzzer in my helmet .. don't listen to anyone who says it doesn't work IT DOES ... you can still get caught but it does offer some protection
If you want one ... get one ... whoi cares what other saySteve my man, I care! Your opinion is worth it’s weight in gold as you are the only one to answer the question!
How many times has your detector saved you?
R1100RT Chic pullerAs I have had the Escort for 3 or 4 years … and given I travel around 30K km a year on my bike … I really have lost count of the number of times I have been saved … but it is lots
Like my friend Steve B (the cop) says .. he who speeds in the wrong places WILL get caught, is correct ... so I am careful BUT its that time you relax a little in a 70kph area or those long boring straights where you speed creaps up that the Escort has saved me
Also it great security after you have overtaken a car ... got up to 130/140kph and as your speed drops down (short of jumping on the brakes) that you are vulnerable
Hope all that helps .... I assure you they are an investment (agreed not assurance againest ever getting a ticket) but you only have to save ONE !! and you're on the right side and without demerit points

04 350Z RoadstarAnonymousGuest05/07/2005 at 1:28 amPost count: 2134Just to add some balance to the discussion. 4 years ago I had a little 3 month holiday from riding, driving etc after accumulating 100pts (exactly) in the space of about 9 months after I got the bike. I have a K12 and it’s nearly impossible to prevent accidental speeding without spending more time watching the speedo than the road.
So I investigated rader detectors and it appeared that the Valentine was (and still is I think) one of the best. But it was not the solution that I chose. The other option I looked at was an ECC (electronic cruise control). Got one from Motorcycle Setup in Australia. The principle I decided to follow is that if you're not speeding in a high risk area - then you won't get caught. Seems to work for me - I haven't had a ticket on the scoot since, and that was about 4 years go. Cost at the time was similar so no pluses or minuses there.
Of course with the ECC there are many other benefits as well. Radar-detector doesn't let you take your right-hand off to stretch and relax on long trips. Also removes all the ANXIETY from the trip - set and forget - no more speedo watching - spend more time enjoying the ride and the country-side.
Of course in the low risk areas.....
I'm very happy with the ECC and frankly couldn't be bothered with a radar detector these days.
Whatever you decide - good luck and good riding.

Didn't we get stopped somewhere along that road on the last mahia trip?AnonymousGuest25/07/2005 at 5:55 amPost count: 2134well I just posted a question in the Tech section asking about which wire to pickup on, for accessories ( forgot to mention the fact that I ride an R1150R, better go back and fix that). The accessory being a Valintine1 which I have in my car.
I feel used correctly, like any good tool, it works fine. As mentioned throughout this thread detectors have their limitations, so you have to be aware of not only how the detector works but also how mista plod works. I recommend them. 😛
Steve.Hi you all.
I use a radar/lazar blocker that is fitted under my Adventure spotlights on each side.Works for me in South Africa, lucky no fines. You can email the SA importer and ask about NZ import.New product on the market, smaller then the one's for cars.
