Hi Kokpelli,Thanks for forum mail. I checked my vin number on http://www.bmw-z1.com/VIN/VINdecode-e.cgi and interestingly, it states that my bike is not fitted with a catalyzer, which backs up my thoughts as there is no lambda probe fitted into the collector box? I am still unable to remove the collector and silencer owing to my other problem of two allen studs holding the two tabs on the front of the collector box, but if there is no Cat, then the collector seems to be a waste of space? I will have to check up on what the cost is to make a pipe and buy a stainless silencer and see if it is worth it.Cheers and thanks for your help. Most appreciated. happy Christmas.

If it's not broken you've got time. I would keep an eye out on trademe. Occasionally exhausts and Y-pipes pop up for sale. People tend to sell them separately to their bike. A Y-pipe in stainless usually costs around the $400 mark, plus whatever the silencer costs. On the 1150 the collector box seems to be doing most of the silencing. If that's the case on your bike, you could just get the Y-pipe and use the stock silencer.I am surprised that your bike does not have a cat, I thought they were a standard item.

I had a look at a 1999 R850R and a 2004 R850R and R1150R at Big bikes in Hamilton yesterday and none of them have a Lambda probe in the collector boxes, so I wonder if they are not fitted with Catalyzers because the NZ and Japan regs did not require them to be fitted? The two 2004 RR bikes are Japanese imports. There is a guy in Hamilton http://www.rapidartnz.com/index.htm that prepairs race bikes that has tentativly offered to make me a Y pipe and he sells aftermarket silencers, so I may go see him and see what his all up price is for the job.Cheers

Check out this tradme ad. It's for an Arrow silencer that may fit your bike.http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Parts-for-sale/Exhaust/auction-193758858.htm

Hi Kokopelli,Thanks for the link, but I am hopeful of doing the job for less than that and I am thinking of using a scorpion muffler, which would be new.The pipe would not actually be a Y pipe either, as the two exhaust pipes have already siamesed into one by the right foot peg, so it would only be a single link pipe across the back of the gearbox, to connect to the muffler. Thanks anyway.Mike
