hi everyone, a few more weeks and we will be moving house, this means a longer commute to work for me. I will be doing 35km each way, on sealed roads ,and one of the "criteria" i made to my wife is "I need a bigger bike !". I have been advised to take a 2 cylinder as opposed to single, as this will run a lot smoother. What would be your advise and pro's and con's ? I like the look of the gs, but they appear rather dear compared to the 1150 r model. more bike for your moneyBudget, $8K, which I might somehow be able to push a bit to $10K max? 😀 All the advise would be appreciated !

If you are only staying on the road then the 1150r will be fine. Make sure and buy a bike with a service records.

The R1150R is an excellent bike. You can hardly go wrong. Don't worry too much about mileage, if it has had regular services.

Good performance, economical, easy to maintain, go anywhere one or two up, comfortable etc etc etc.  I agree with the previous two writers, but might suggest that you also look at the 1100R which is a great machine (not as pretty) and you would get one for less than the 1150R.  Good luck.  PS (for Steve) edit was because I noticed a couple of extra “eyes” in economical

My commute is about 37k each way on open country road and motorway. I have gone for an 1100 S for the sharper overall ride. The twins are hugely better than a single or this type of riding. I have also done stretches of 20 k on gravel which is fine on this bike

I am heading off around the top of the south island on the 28th hope to get to Farewell spit, Westport – over the Lewis to Hamner and Kaikoura then up to Blenheim the last stretch will be Rimutakas to Napier / Gisborne then up to Opotiki via the gorge. I will post some photos when I am back.
