Hey all,Can someone throw a pic of how the guide for the speedo/brake cable looks on. I have the ali guide and have just got a bradded brake line put on. Had a check and noticed alot of wear on the speedo cable, now this is wearing on the new brake line. I'm intereted to see the angle of guide on the top of the mud guard.I think the guide may be bent.ThanksDave

This is what mine looks like.It might also be worth checking with your dealer to find out if the mod to the brake line in this area has been done. It was a BMW recall on this model. The problem was chaffing between the speedo cable and brake line.J.R.

Ah, John, I know where that avatar came from: I think I know the photographer!  Did you get the high resolution photos, or do you want me to give you a link to them? 😕

I just have a rubber loop there, that used to hold the speedo cable. Now it's worn through.

I have hung your photos in a folder on my storage at UbuntuOne, John.  You should get a link via email: it will be a good sized download.

Back on topic, the guide were modded on my 1150GS recently by the local Beemer people on the recall. My cable wasn't damaged, but they did the upgrade anyway. While I was there, another 1150GS was there for a different reason, but I had a look and the cable was totally worn through.I'm guessing that's why the mod was being done, and it's worth going to the trouble. Here's what the end product looks like, but I can't recall how it's different from original. Still, any free stuff from BMW is cool with me.

Forgot to say, the cable on the other bike (the one mentioned above as having a worn cable) actually didn't have the worn cable. The cable had been rubbing on the brake line, and had almost worn through the brake line.I'm sure some Merican had had that same problem, and had sued Mr BM for zillions.Ka kite.

That's what mine was like. The mechanic reckoned another couple of thousand k's and the brake line have worn through...= no brakes! 😮

I asked about the recall and refit by BMW. Check of the bike number and it was a no go.Time to have a look at and sort the problem out.
