BMW Australia have decided not to sell BMW helmets after they sell what they have in stock.

Must be because of all the bad press you have given them. They've seen the light and stopped selling rubbish.

Always said the system 5 was not a patch on the system 4 and it's taken BMW quite a while to find out.

The system 5 seems to use nicer materials for the interior. I still wear my system 4, but it's definitely past its use-by date. Looks like we'll miss out on the System 6. I may just go for standard helmet next time. I used to think I could no longer be happy with an ordinary helmet, but the Shoei has taught me otherwise. Dean also seems to like his BMW off-road helmet and he used to be a bit of a flip-up man himself.Still, less choice is not a good thing.

I have it on fairly good authority that the Australian decision does not affect the availability of BMW helmets in NZ. They have their own helmet testing procedures in oz, while NZ accepts the European approvals. The BMW flip helmets actually do well in recent UK tests. by  SHARP. As I've posted elsewhere:The UK agency SHARP has been testing various helmets for some time. They have now tested flip-front helmets, also known as system helmets, and only two of the tested get the maximum 5 stars. Which should mean that they perform as well as the best of the integral helmets.To view the results go to http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ and select type System to see the results for all system helmets.The BMW System 5 gets one more star than the Schuberth C2, and, in the UK at least, is somewhat cheaper. Both of them had the chin guards remain fully locked on all impacts.

Thats an interesting site Arne, especially comparing prices.I was thinking that my next helmet would be a Shoei Multitech as it fits quite well compared with the others, but may now wait and see what the system 6 is like.

Arny is correct the Australian decision does not effect NZ selling BMW helmets. There has been many complaints about the fit of the system 5. I believe BMW is talking people into a size too small. The main problem I have with the 5 is the lack of a front peck which made me look at the off road helmet.I'll have a look at the 6 for Barb once it arrives, who knows when 🙄

Dean, don't you reckon that the peak on the System 4 is too short to be useful anyway? The one on the Shoei is a lot longer, but still quite short as far as peaks go, because it is a compromise between effectiveness and how it reacts to buffeting. I can't see the System 6 coming out with a peak, either. The 6 seems to have a built in sun visor instead. I usually ride with tinted safety glasses, because I like to keep the visor open a lot. The glasses I use can be cheaply replaced, but  I suspect that the same can't be said of the inbuilt visor. People who have the C2 seem to like it, though.I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I found the system 4 peak fine, but you have to have a screen on the bike other wise none of the peaks work over 80kph the will try to lift the helmet

The Shoei peak seems to be good up to 120km/h, but only if there is no additional head wind. today it nearly pulled my head off. There were some nasty wind gusts on the motorway. I must have looked like a guy with Parkinson's, the way my head got knocked around.

You should have increased your speed to 140 this would have got flying above the bike. At that speed I have lost two peak. They come of real fast 😆I had a great day with BMW cars on Monday and managed to have a top speed of 200kph Henry got to 210 kph. We were both in the latest M3 auto. The funny thing was we both did not know how to get it in gear. By the time we got the car moving we just had to catch up. 😀 The car I enjoyed the most was the Z4 at 200kph. You almost sit on the rear wheels and you can feel the rear wheels slipping from under you on the corners. 😆  This is the fastest I have been without a helmet 😀 as well no had any of those glow vests on  🙄
