Don't know if that's still the case, but Ohlins is much better than stock, Rob Taylor tuned them for me and I head down to him every 30k to service them…I still remember asking the dealer what the service interval was for the suspension.... oooh, no, we don't service. When you think they're worn out you buy another set...
Another article about the S1000XR in UltimateMotorcycling, this time by Jonathan Handler.
BMW S 1000 XR Review – What the Facts? The author claims that the vibrations mentioned in most reviews lessen as the engine gets some more hours on it.The conclusion: "BMW has produced a stellar vehicle in the BMW S1000XR, especially as a first year offering. It is a world-class motorcycle as good or better than any bike in the several categories in which one might sensibly compare it. Retaining my driver’s license after a month-long affair – priceless."Read the article at: https://ultimatemotorcycling.com/2015/09/25/bmw-s1000xr-what-the-facts/

UltimateMotorcycling has a review of the S1000XR, primarily of the S1000XR Dynamic Package, written by Don Williams.
2016 BMW S 1000 XR Dynamic Package | ReviewHe even gets all poetic, with inspirational lines from Schiller's Ode to Joy. The conclusion: "People are always asking me what my favorite motorcycle is. Well, that will still be dependent upon what I am doing, but the 2016 BMW S1000XR is a bike that will absolutely come up in that discussion. For me, it is a flawless bike that makes me a better rider and puts a smile on my face as I run my course with the Gods of Speed."This despite mentioning the handlebar vibrations at certain speeds as a flaw. A news item from BMW about hacks or chairs, or as some call them, sidecars. Especially SBW (not that one) ones for the R1200GS and GSA.
Take a chair and let’s make life a ride"It now looks as if sidecars are heading towards becoming a norm in today’s modern world where motorcycling is now seen as an all-important leisure activity and viable transport. This adds weight to the old adage that there is nothing new in motorcycling only safer good times ahead."Read the full story at: http://www.bmw-motorrad.com/com/en/individual/news/2011/news.jsp?id=4929
About a month ago BMW showed a concept stunt bike, the G310. Now the G 310 R road bike has been introduced.

BMW claims the G 310 R weighs only 349 pounds [158k.5g] wet."Read the story at: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/2015/11/bmw-introduces-new-single-cylinder-g-310-r/On that page there is also a link to the BMW media information pdf.
In more news, BMW has revealed an electric sport bike concept, the eRR.
BMW Reveals eRR Electric Sportbike Concept"BMW revealed an electric sportbike concept styled after the S1000RR. Dubbed the BMW eRR (am I the only one who thinks “error” when I see that acronym? At least put a hyphen in there, am I right?), the concept shares the S1000RR’s fairing including the gills on the right side, but the telltale lack of an exhaust, gear shift and most importantly, engine casing, reveal the eRR’s electric nature."Read the story by Dennis Chung at: http://blog.motorcycle.com/2015/11/11/manufacturers/bmw/bmw-reveals-err-electric-sportbike-concept/
