I was surprised to see the turnout today. At least 24 bikes left BP Papakura. We picked one up along the way and 4 turned around in Pirongia, just before the good road started.  The Kawhia roller coaster has got to be one of the best roads around. DTY managed to get picked for points duty just at the turn-off. How he teleported to the head of the group I have no idea. However, I have found out that he secretly grinds bits off his bike as he rides around the corners, so he loses weight and can make enough speed to pass the K1200s' on the straights, or something like that. Anyway, it was great company as usual, with Colin from Taranaki and later Jan from Hamilton throwing in a guest appearance. Colin had already been waiting for us by the time we got there. We filled up the place smartly and it wasn't long before the first people had their food. The place must have been looking forward to a quiet day, but it was not to be.Gunnyrob, Peter Z. and myself took the back road to Raglan and Peter and I continued on gravel around the back of the mountain. We had a blast riding these roads with virtually no traffic, followed by an empty HW22. We got up with the tail end somewhere near Tip Top corner and quietly made our way though the gaps. I thinking of setting up a gravel ride from Port Waikato to Raglan and around the mountain and back again towards Port Waikato. Rather than going to eat somewhere we could back some food and pick a quiet spot with a good view for lunch. How does that sound? That's beaut!I would be keen to bring the KTM on a Port-Raglan gravel ride.  The slicks would be ahh, sporty, but there would be good sliding practice!Loved the last 55kms of the ride today, what a great road.  I would like to do that again but perhaps take 22-23-39 to cut out the motorway stuff.  It would make a longer day though.  Maybe on a lunch ride!Yes, the old girl went on a significant weight loss program today.  Ground a fair bit more off following Dick back to Pirongia.  We came across a cockie that had rolled his quad-bike - OVER a barbed-wire fence and into the ditch.  Tough going when you've got nothing on but stubbies and a singlet.  He should live. Thanks for the great ride!

Must say I enjoyed that part of the ride Dave, you were all over me in the corners, the extra HP enabled me to stay ahead on the straights  😎

It was good to catch up with those I knew and to meet a few new members  😀 Had an awesome ride home through the Hauturu Rd, Wiapuna Rd then down to the Mangatoa. About then I started to get serious about getting home. 🙂  Looking forward to catching up again on the King Country ADV ride. Although if this threatening rain works its majic I may have to reconsider throwing RiverDancer at the 42nd and Fisher's.  😮 I might have to buy a toy bike for those tracks  😉
