Anyone using this rider to pillion bluetooth intercom? I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on it's effectiveness and practicality.
Hi Malcolm. Lesley and I use the G3 Interphone set when she is on her scooter and I follow on the LT. Found the units very effective – nice clear speech up to about 5-600 meters apart but get scratchy after that and don't have much wind noise. Our units have only been tested up to around 60kph as that's as fast as the scooter goes ;D. Care needs to be taken when removing your helmet as the wiring for the ear speakers feel a little light however we haven't had a problem – just a feeling. Charging is simple, just use the supplied usb wall chargers. Can be a little fiddly at first getting used to the “pairing” of the units but once mastered it's not too bad. Overall we think they were a good buy for our needs. Cheers.
Thanks for the reply Ingel, I've done a bit of searching on the net and found mostly good feedback so took a dive and ordered a set. My phone is connected to the GPS so I'm hoping if I pair the F3 to the GPS I'll get the phone as well. The bonus (i think) is we can communicate more safely.

Good point Grem, I've just had a look and it seems that it can handle up to five different phones. However that doesn't necessarily mean it will pick up an intercom! If it does I guess I will have to then select which device I want it to connect to when I'm on the bike eg the GPS. That of course eliminates the ability to route the phone through the GPS but I'm not really concerned about taking calls on the road.

Thanks Dave, is yours the F3 or the more expensive models F4 – F5. It seems you can get instructions from the GPS and receive phone calls? do your calls get routed through the GPS – what model GPS do you use.

Mine is the G3 model, the GPS was a Navman, I no longer have that model and haven't tried my latest Navman yet due to the fact I haven't found a handlebar mount that fits.
Update on the intercom purchased recently. Firstly it's the unit from Cellular Line and not the unit Dave talks about earlier. We used it at the weekend and found we were able to converse clearly at the legal limit and a little above. We both wear earplugs and I'm partially deaf so it's a good unit. You can hear a slight wind noise across the mic in some conditions which I guess is dependent on the angle of the wind across the helmet but not a nuisance and one can always switch off for a while if necessary. It is paired to my cell and I have to do some research to solve the problem of it making random calls by itself when I pressed the talk button a couple of times when uncertain if we were linked or not!!!!!!!!Unfortunately my Tomtom which is a car unit won't pair with the F3 which is a bummer because that was the main reason for buying. However Jean is well pleased with the ability to give orders verbally without resorting to screaming in my ear or punching me in the kidneys ;D and who knows I may get a bike specific GPS one of these fine days.So for $299 it's been a good buy and after years of riding "deaf" we can sing in unison as we cruise the highways and byeways. I do have to be careful not to burp loudly after lunch though :-
