Some companies here in London are banning staff from riding motorcycles to work because, wait for it, it's too dangerous. Many riders are up in arms because it's having a direct effect on their pockets. The ban is growing in momentum with local and national governments looking at backing the ban – crazy. 😕

Hi Ingel, good to hear from you. How can they legally ban staff from using bikes? The trouble is too many people over here get their inspiration from there. That's one idea they can keep.Apart from that, are you and Leslie having a good time?Alex

Hi AlexWe havn't yet started our touring. Waitng for the paperwork to catch up with the bike, so just laying low in the meantime. Finding it difficult and frustrating working within the English way of doing things but time will heal all - we hope. Really looking forward to setting off to Europe but just may do a couple of weeks in southern UK first to get into the swing of things.Cheers, Ingel

I don't think it's a ban on riding a bike TO work, but work related riding, ie travelling to meetings etc using a bike. As ever, it's a liability thing, employers and their insurers are afraid of being held responsible in the event of an accident. Typical of the american/british claim culture I'm afraid. I had a similar issue with my employer in the UK, they were VERY reluctant to let me use my bike to go to meetings etc. Also an image perception, although I've always found it to be an advantage, at least people remember you when you turn up on a bike rather than another repmobile! When I was being interviewed for my job here in NZ, I asked if it would be ok to use my bike to go to meetings etc, my boss looked at me like I was mad, and said 'I don't care if you ride a fcuking elephant!'  Typical kiwi, no nonsense approach!

Ahh that's the attitude, thanks for sharing that with us Tony.  😀 That's the second good chuckle I've had this evening.  The first one I downloaded with my email but it's a biggish file and right now may not be time to post it.  It's the time we live in I guess, more and more folk getting upset by more and more little things.  Talking of restrictions did you see the Herald this morning? they're talking of micro-chipping senior citizens  😉  They'll know when and where we ride our bikes then.Ride safe Ingle and Leslie and have a great trip.Malcolm
