Welcome to our forum, Roberto. At the end of a trek such as you've plotted you will be very grateful for the GS being such a superb touring machine, and your child bride will either be staunch with you for life or ready for early divorce! You have certainly picked out the best of the best roads to travel.  You may one find one small drawback is the conflict between enjoying the riding and having to stop/start all day every day to take photos.  Particularly in the South Island the weather tends to be different on both coasts.  It can be worth being flexible with your planning there, if it is going to be wet and nasty on the West Coast, chances are high it will be good on the other side, two hours ride away.Keep in touch, I'm sure you'll find the odd invite to a meal or use of a washing machine and so on will come, which could all help with your costs.

Hi RobertoI note you missed the western extremity of the North Island - Stratford/New Plymouth.  Mt Messenger  and/or the "Lost Forgotten Highway"/Whangamomona roads are incredible GS country. Though any road is GS country! Look them up on the net. Well worth riding across from Taupo/Taumaranui/Whangamomona/Stratford/(Mt Messenger/New Plymouth/Opunake)/Wanganui.You certainly have covered all other areas thoroughly. All the best. As Bwucie says, we may catch up with you.

Having travelled that route more than most home grown Kiwis's already, I second that statement, HWY 48 should definatley be part of your itinery.....

Benvenuti nel nostro sito e Nuova Zelanda,I belong to http://www.bmw-cruiser.it/  But have the lauguage problem! (I have an R1200C) I have questions for you!Are you a seasoned rider and your wife? There is a lot of riding to do in your maps! How many kilometres do you ride in a day? I would do 400km max when touring.Example: The trip around East Cape took us 3 night from Whakatane to Gisborne. From Napier to Wellington about 5 hours. On the map, why not go up (or Down) on the red route? It is a main highway and starts from downtown Auckland by going over the Harbour bridge.Remember, January and Febuary is holiday time and school holidays are on: Have you got accomodation sorted? Here is some links you may be interested in: http://www.clubgaribaldi.org.nz/http://www.ginas.co.nz/homepage.aspx (You got to go here. I have wonderful memories of this restuarant.)

If you stay off the single digit roads, like Highway 1, you can't go wrong.  The Forgotten Highway is a good tip, but the East Cape is also a good ride. Try to do some gravel roads in South Island. The Molesworth Road (Blenheim to Hanmer Springs) is easy and very scenic. The West Coast is great and so are any of the passes. If you do around 300km during the day you'll have plenty of time to look around and arrive early enough at a destination to not have to worry about finding a place to spend the night.

nice route and ya  covering some ground. I probably will get flamed with these comments but I would miss out Invercargill  and head straight towards Dunedin from Te Anau in the bottom of the south. Farmland with lots of sheep (Yawn). Also back in the North Island from Masteron some nice roads out by the coast thru Pongaroa HERBERTVILLE Porongahau TO WAIPAKARAU. No traffic and beautiful flowing roads.

But Steve, everyone goes to Invercargill for the Bluff.Hence the saying, "North Cape to the Bluff!"

Hi Roberto,Wow - what a fantastic plan to spend your honeymoon here in NZ AND on a motorbike. Some girls are just so lucky  🙂The only thing I would like to add is: In Europe it's not a problem to do an average of 100 km per hour - especially if you travel on the Autobahn (auto strada ?). Here in NZ I guess one can average around 70 km per hour (I am happy to be corrected here) - and that's pure riding and no stopping and enjoying the scenery. The highways here are not to be confused with the ones in Europe. I don't know where you are from in Italy, but we rode quite often from Stuttgart to Northern Italy via the Reschen Pass to do the Passo de Stelvio and to visit Meran. So if you know that stretch of road between Reschen and Meran, that is comparable to a NZ highway. They are mostly one lane each way and have "passing lanes" built in every 10 - 15 kms. They pass through villages where you have to slow down. Also, please note that the speed limit is 100km/hour and it is majorly enforced - especially over the NZ summer time. So, I think you should plan for an average of 500 km per day plus a few days off in between to give your butts a break. Also, there is so much to see here that you don't want to have a too tight schedule. Maybe you find a spot where you would like to stay an extra day and enjoy what's on offer. As I said, I spent most of my holidays on the motorbike back in Europe and loved it. The only thing is that it can also be quite tiring after a week or two, if you are riding every day.I hope that helps to plan your trip.Regina
