Had a bit of bad luck but also a whole lot of good luck on my way to work this morning. While going over the Victoria Park fly-over towards the Harbour Bridge when I noticed that the bus in the left lane was braking really hard. As I couldn't see past the bus due to the lefthand bend,  I thought that it would be prudent to slow down as well. I had been doing about 90ish and slowed down to about 60km/h. When I could see that the road ahead of me was still clear so I started to speed up again. This is when my rear tire got hit. It seemed like the rear of the bike got lifted and shunted to one side. This is where the lucky bit starts- I managed to stay upright. I turned on the hazard light and turned to look behind me. It was a green Toyota that had hit my bike. I signalled him to pull over and started to move to the left hand verge. This was a mistake, as the guy did not stop and got away. I had missed his number plate, well I had other things to think about at the time. The rear-wheel has a slight flatspot that seemed to balance out alright, but the differential bearing is also slightly out of whack. That's a few hundred dollars down the drain. But hey, my riding suit is still in good nick apart from a little bit of brown residue in the seat area, so I guess I was lucky.  If you see a green Toyota with a vertical stripe of paint missing on the front bumper give him the finger for me, I forgot to do that as well.  👿Oh, I forgot to mention that I saw Vladimir, the Russian traveller, at Cycletreads. He was sending an email with the help of the lady behind the counter. it was quite amusing to watch him use his sign language to communicate his message. If I understood correctly he likes the New Zealand roads, but has had a close call somewhere. He seems a really nice guy.

As long as you are OK. Ask Noel to have a look at the video footage. This part of the motor way has cameras.

Yes it does, but according to the police they don't record. I'll double check with Noel.

Glad to hear it was only material damage and you are OK Alex. You should wait around the time it happened as it is likely the car goes the same time and route each day.

I suppose I could set up a road block. I will treat it as a lesson. It is ironic though, that I got hit while trying to be senisble.

I really do not miss the Auckland traffic one little bit.As Jim said, I'm glad it's only the machinery, and not you that's damaged.
