Gear display not working

Hey guys, the gear display is malfunctioning on my 1200GS. My neutral does not show on my display panel, it does show my gears as I gearing up and down, but when I come to a full stop, the gear display goes blank. Also, along with this I need to start her with my clutch pulled. Any advice to help this problem? Cheers

I'm thinking it means it's not actually going into neutral? Normally if the gear display is blank it means it's between gears. Bit of a prod around and it finds itself a gear and the display lights up appropriately.Would also explain why you have to start with the clutch lever engaged...

When I stop and put beemer into 1st gear and click it halfway back into neutral, I do get neutral, however my neutral display does not show on my panel. In fact I have no display at all when the bike is at a standstill. Also, she only starts when I pull the clutch.

Not sure about the missing gear indicator Gary but have you checked the side stand switch is not sticking causing you to have to de clutch to start.

Hey Malcolm, I reckon the sidestand switch ok in the sense that the bike switches of when I put the stand out, with no running problems once the sidestand is up and I've clutched to start. Besides my neutral display not showing, the total blank gear display when I stop and me having to clutch to start, the bike runs perfect.

you certainly know where to find all the info......one thing that bugs me with the R1200 is all this electronic wizardry which creates dependency on the Dealership,the more I delve into it the more I like my good old reliable hard wired R1150 !!!

LINZ maps are the go here, Malcolm, and they are still hard to beat. As I've positted before, in emergencies it's a lot easier to use a mapsheet as kindling than a GPS, and you just plain CAN'T wipe your bum with a bit torn of the edge ofya satnav. ::)
