I think it started with speed radars, way back when Moses was still riding around in a chariot. Then authorities started installing red light cameras, trying to fine us for driving through a red light. Now, the latest technology gadget to be used by authorities to separate your from your hard earned money; the Vehicle Pollution Radar (my term) !!

In The Hague, The Netherlands, the city is going to install a new "radar", that will not make photos of your car/motorcycle when it's speeding, or when it's going through a red light, but when your vehicle is emitting too much pollution !

It's a new technology developed by the Dutch university of TU Delft (thanks a lot guys! ), and "sniffs" the exhaust fumes from your motorcycle while you ride past it. In microseconds the gas is analyzed, and if you're over the limit, a photo is taken and you'll be fined !!

Scary! So far, the city council hasn't decided to fine you, or how to use it, but be sure that very shortly you'll find these sniffing radars around the world. And what happens if they are able to sniff a bit of weed ???

I while ago they were offering tests like this in Auckland. You could drive past to get a reading of your exhaust. I am all for emission controls. But let’s start with the city buses, and then work our way down to motorcycles.

I think I’m safe: my leathers contain the most noxious emissions, allowing them to dissipate gradually.

Leather might be ok for now, but soon you’ll be expected to use a Goretex filter.
