I always thought the 'S' looked xxxx and now a black engine???? Looks worse than before. Check out the 'S's that dont move at the local dealer, this will add to their misery!

None of the 800's have been great sellers. The best looking bike is the 1200 Adventure. I'm clad we all have different tests other wise what a boring world it would be.

I've ridden the 1200 and I just don't get why people ride them let alone buy them. Then again I'm shorter. But we all do have our favourites and that's one of the things I like about bikes. They make a diverse range of them. Car manufacturers can learn a lot here I think. There was a patch over the last 10 years where we started to see some interesting cars then it died again it seems.Personally I love the F800 ST. It handles well, is easy to flick around, I can reach the ground, maybe it could do with 1000cc or 900 at the least. It's just such a fun bike to ride and it seems the new models largely have the niggles sorted. You get a good view of your elbows in the mirror and on the plus side it's great for blocking out car headlights behind you at night. Of course it's never great to realise you can't see back, so you pull your elbows in to see a cop behind you.Adjustable front end forks would be nice as well. Outside of that the ABS failures while not fixed by BMW don't appear to be showing up in the newer models from what I see posted in the forum. Sadly it looks like BMW won't be fixing the ABS fault on my bike (*#&%%$. I like the 800GS. What I think would have been an interesting bike to see thought was the new 650 with the 800 engine set up so the 800 had it's usual grunt, and have the bike set up more as a scrambler or lower ground clearance off road bike with spoke wheels. Sure it won't do the major off road stuff but I think it would have been a great bike to ride and ideally suited to our conditions down here. A lot of the time I get off the ebaten track to see what's around the corner but I don't need to join the motorcross guys riding the rough stuff. So the 1200 is just so damned unbelievably tall for me. I feel like I'm on a horse not a motorbike. I can't take the thing off road because any time I lose a little control I know putting my foot down will most likely not save the bike from going over. I'm guessing it wouldn't take me many times of picking that thing up before I want to devise a tool for lifting it or give it away. Now the F650 with the 800 engine as a scrambler starts to look real appealing. I wonder if any of the dealers will look into producing this as a one off special and whether people would buy it.I think I'd buy it if it had the grunt. Mind you the F800GS does look great as well. The KTM 690 is also an appealing machine. I'm sad to see BMW dropping yellow from the F800 range. I think they could do with some brighter colours. Bikes are supposed to be bright. (Says the guy with the almost matt grey F800ST - my excuse was there were no other colours available and no other bikes available at the time)Just out of curiosity has anyone put those full cover graphic stickers you see on cars on a bike. What's the deal when you pull them off? Does the paint look stunning or does it come off with the sticker. And Dean, fine bike that 1200 Adventure. It will just never be in my garage. Unless I get a lot taller and heavier. Only one of those is likely to happen and sadly not the one I'd prefer of the two.

This is where most ride the 1200 wrong and expect to have both feet on the ground. One foot firmly on the ground is all you need. The 1200gs now is available with lower seat and frame. The ground clearance is the same. There is no point in having a lower ground clearance if you are riding bikes off road. I'm not tall and have short legs, but ride the adventure on the highest setting.

I just don't understand the desire to change the F650GS engine to the same specs as the F800GS. The only part of the rev range where the 800GS has more power than the 650GS is above 6000 rpm. The 650GS has the same or more torque below 6000 rpm, and runs on regular 91 octane fuel. I have yet to run gravel or offroad above 6000 rpm, and on sealed roads I only use it occasionally when overtaking. The reason why the 800GS feels faster and more powerful is the lower gearing. Put an 800GS sprocket on the front of the 650GS, as I have done, and the 650 will be faster than the 800 for most purposes. I'd actually prefer the 800GS with the 650GS engine specifications, which you can more or less achieve by having the dealer remap it for 91 octane fuel.
AnonymousInactive14/09/2008 at 5:26 amPost count: 286Hi ArtigI haven't riden the F650 and when they said detuned I automatically think noticeably less power. So it sounds like it's fine as it is. I do also really like the F800GS and on looks alone that looks like a good replacement for my bike. Of course if my bike was trouble free I would keep it for olonger. I'll have to take the 650 for a ride one day.Hi DeanActually I have no problems getting both feet down on the 1200 but only just. The bike is still tall for my liking. I can imagine me not enjoying picking it up often. Clearly the idea is to stay upright to start with. If I had the skill level that you and some of the other riders had maybe it would be a different story.... I don't even have to think about it though, I still like the F800 more. (and the 450) You'll have to let us know how it goes out there. Dave will join you with a bit of luck.Thanks.
