Alex wrote, re the Westpac,"As long as nobody falls off it will be fine. A couple of years ago some clown did impromptu burnouts in front of me and in the middle of the crowd"You will have seen on the news that there was another singularly nasty example of this at the Kumeu Show, where a child was badly hurt. The demons have the offender, who received a bit of on-site attention from bystanders before he was arrested. The bad news is that bikers are gonna be banned from that show. The good news is that the offender's gang mates are gonna give him some more bash after the law finishes with him.Yep, I think there has been a brain damaged clown somewhere in the throng on just about every charity run I've ever been on: as always, you have to ride your own bike and look after your own skin. Command your space and leave room for the unexpected. Respect Steve Bell's comment in the thread about GS brakes: training and practice beat flash braking systems and (hopefully) quick reactions every time. You may stop, but will the dude behind you, before he runs upya jacksie? And would any of us ride bikes if there was no element of risk? Go on, admit it - we're all adrenalin junkies to some degree.

Surely a loud horn would be useful in there somewhere? 😀 No, I haven't been watching TV for a while, haven't missed it either. When did the Kumeu incident happen? It's bad enough when these squids damage themselves, but inexcusable if someone else gets hurt. But you are right, we're in it for the adrenalin. I do enough stupid things without prompting, so I try not to initiate stunts on purpose.

I don't know if it's linked to a brand of bike. Stupid is as stupid does, or something like that. People are generally too polite to tell me, but I know that I've done some questionable maneuvers in the past.
