I wonder how many of you have left your better half behind by accident. My guess is no one although I bet a few of you have done it on purpose. Lets keep it sunny side up. Neil

I have heard of several, and along with a dozen others I watched one bloke leave Tirau without his wife, having clean forgot she was with him.  He turned around and came back from Karapiro when none of us were following him.

Well as silly excuses go “The Dog ate my homework” was never the most original, and I only used it for comedic effect in my math’s class at school because in truth,” said homework” was never part of any canine supper, it was in fact never even thought about until 5 minutes before the morning bell sounded for lessons after a weekend of fun fun fun……….Well now I have your attention the reason I fell off my motorcycle this Sunday on a right hand corner sir, was because I am from the Northern Hemisphere and the water goes down the plug-hole in the opposite direction, all those years of going round right hand corners up there, whilst under the physical effect of the Earths gravitational pull and magnetic influences have corrupted my inbuilt gyroscope......Na this is just as silly isn't it !!!!! oh well at least I won't get the cane this time if I tell you what really happened. The Truth of the matter is that even taking into account all the contributory factors that led up to the last few undignified feet before the fall, the main factor undoubtedly was fatigue, it was a seriously hot and humid afternoon and my brain was starting to boil inside its little plastic sauna. When we turned left onto Quoine rd, Jason was marking the corner and I was last in line with only Uncamouse behind me who was T.E.C., for anyone who knows me reasonably well, this in itself should have registered in my grey matter that something was not quite right, and in fact before I turned left, I actually considered pulling up, but elected to hang out until I saw a safer spot to pull up.(I found the perfect spot as it happens, just wasn't too well planned)The corner I got wrong was not a particularly challenging one and several riders had managed to negotiate it five minutes earlier without drama, I had clicked down into what I thought was third gear and lined up a little too far left, as I looked through the corner I noticed it was tightening up and did all the usual stuff scrubbed off some speed, then my right boot caught the road and then I made my next mistake, for some reason I notched down again and found the dreaded green light (already in second) (oh Buggah !) back wheel was now on the loose stuff at the side of the road and we were almost at walking pace with 4,000 rpm on the clock, the bike went down on its R.H. rocker cover and slid to a halt on the tarmac…….We were both back on our feet before the front wheel had stopped turningI had a quick check on my lovely wife to see if she was OK and still talking to me whilst making my apologies, and by then Jason had arrived to help me to sort the bike out.Uncamouse arrived and did a great job of covering the entrance to the corner to make sure we didn't surprise anyone else as soon as he knew we were OK, and a quick inspection of the bike revealed a badly scratched rocker cover and absolutely nothing else. The G.S. is a truly remarkable machine and came off better than my new Technic Jacket and Sidi Canyon boot + my good lady put a hole in the knee of her new riding pants right on the amour and a small hole in her glove. The bike started up without too much protest and we continued on the next leg of the journey with a shortcut to Mercer for a quick cup of tea before catching up with the rest of the group at Pokeno for the obligatory ice cream, and to show off our clothing alterations. All in all it was great day out with 504 Kilometers of great scenery and excellent company. Falling off the bike was something we could have lived without but fortunately it was no big deal and I guess after reaching the age of 57 and only been on my arse three times in 44 years of motorcycling (this being the first time I can actually say it was my fault) I don't consider that to be too bad a record. After getting back to base we had a quick shower, decanted to the tin top and took off to Orewa to meet up with Team Red  Barron and their lovely daughter for a curry at the “Wishing Well” and a gargle at Muldoon’s Now for the SPOOKY bit….when we filled up with gas a few minutes before we fell off I pointed out to a few people the numbers on my trip meter….666 exactly  with a big fat zero in the end Colum, good job I’m not superstitious hey……….. Sorry to hear of your little problem but relieved that you and yours are ok.I left the group when Bwucie turned down Island Block road as we had to go to friends for dinner that night and I decided to go back through Hunua and was glad I did as the traffic was non existant but I had to stop at Paparimu school for a break as like everyone else I was feeling very hot and tired and needed to stretch the legs.I was very pleased that I had stolen (borrowed) her indoors large drink bottle and for the first time on a ride I finished it off and wished I had more.Just imagine what all these Richard Craniums who ride in tee shirts and shorts etc would be like in a little spill like that, doesnt bear thinking about !!!!Cheers
