BMW system 4 helmets

Have you found these helmets to be quiet & comfortable? I have an opportunity to buy one brand new although it is several years old. Price around $450 – does that seem to be reasonable?

Any information on these helmets would be appreciated.

Hi Sam,
I am on my second System 4, the current one is the System 4 EVO. Only you can answer the question on how well it fits. Mine obviously fits me. I wouldn't want to be without a lift up chin piece anymore. It is just too convenient.

As to the noise level, this will depend on many factors. The type of bike you are riding, your height and how much hearing you have left :-). I ride an R1150GS wihout a screen and I can get away without wearing ear plugs. So there is already a degree of deafness present.

The price seems OK for NZ, they can be had cheaper overseas. I hope the helmet was stored away from sunlight. Otherwise there shouldn't be any issues.

The price sounds good to me. I like my system 4 helmet. Are looking into getting a new system 5. Any tips to where to buy one would be great. Thank you

All depends on what price you put on your head. 😕  The system 5 is the latest and more up to date.  You will get a minium of 5 years out of the helmet. Which would be retail at $190 for each of the five years.

I have a system 4 and find it very comfortable, and really like the flip top for convenience.It's fairly quiet but I always wear earplugs anyway and at around $450 for a new one its a steal, but like Alex says depends on where and how it has been stored.

I had a system 4 helmet for work and found that in heavy rain it leaked through the top of the visor into my eyes which made riding interesting. Many blokes i know had to modify the visor with tape to seal it. Dont know if this is a genuine fault of the lid or just the ones we got. Was glad when i updated to the system 5 though, its a great lid a lot quieter and waterproof. I wear mine day in and out in all weathers and find it fantastic. The only problem i find is that in heavy rain the material at the bottom gets wet and takes sometime to dry out. The next day its still damp even though its been in the warm all night. Personally i would save the money and buy the system 5 its a much better lid 😀

I had the same leaking problem with the Sys 4. When I bought a dark visor it didn't leak. The original clear one was slightly larger so Experience replaced it and no more leaks. I now have a 4 and a 5. I use the 4 for work as it gets knocked about a bit and the 5 on longer rides as it is quieter but I will have to retire the 4 soon as it approaches 5 years.

FYI – when the former Christchurch dealer closed down about 3 years ago i bought the last System 4 he had (small sized) for Mrs C. Paid $400.
