For the first time I have fitted tyres other than Tourance and TKC80 tot the 1150GS. So far I have only done enough riding to scrub them in. First impressions are good. I took the wheels in to Rowes tyres on Rosebank road, who then fitted the tyres for me. Unfortunately they didn't have the right attachments to balance the rear tyre, but it seems to be fine. All up I paid $475 for the tyres, significantly cheaper than the Tourance. They are very much a road tyre with some gravel capability. Gerda commented on how deep the tread was on the rear tyre, it does look like they should last for a while. The tyres weren't covered in silicone and felt very sticky. Scrubbing them in was easy enough, with only a few mm to go all the way. I am pleased with the handling and general feel of the tyres. Having said that, a new tyres always feel a lot better than the old rubber. Exactly the opposite to shoes :-). I am not planning on taking the GS into any serious conditions, so the tyres' road bias should work out fine. The Basic has the knobblies and is the dedicated gravel bike. I just wish I had more time to ride it.
A link to the tyres? Would like to see what it looks like. The price not bad.!!Do not know of them.
There was an article in Kiwirider a couple of issues ago. I went for a 200km ride today and they performed well. I had couple of minor slides due to too much power on exiting the corners and possibly because I am now running 42psi in the rear and 36psi up front. If these tyres last a reasonable distance I will buy them again.
Good.Dual or road only? Looks like road only.
They are supposed to be a 90/10 tyre. Stiff enough for a little bit of gravel. I've got the Basic for the more serious stuff. But considering the amount of gravel riding most people do they will be fine. Loose, deep gravel will be more unpleasant, but then again, that's just how it is.
Thx.Was thinking of going back to TKC with my next replacement.
Are these a replacement for the Trail Wing Alex, they sound more like an option with a little less off road capability. Did you price them up elsewhere? or is this the only place you can get them.Malcolm
