Hi,My bike (1999 R850R) has cut out on me twice in the past couple of months, but after checking fuses and electrical connections etc, has restarted OK and run well. About a year ago I had the Hall sensors and associated wiring replaced and also changed the fuel filter in the tank at the same time.I am wondering now, if my battery is causing the cut out problem? Last time it cut out, I had only ridden approximately 3Kms to a shop, parked the bike and when I just went to touch the key, it cut out. I went in the shop, came out and it would not start. I fiddled with the electrics, but found nothing and I then tried to start it, and no go, then I opened the throttle wide and tried to start it and it back fired in the muffler, then started OK and ran really well there on after.I have checked the battery no load voltage and it reads 12.58 volts after the bike has stood for about a week unsued. When I came back from a ride yesterday I checked it immediately after I got off and it read 12.76 volts and within 2 hours it was back to 12.58 volts. The battery (a sealed unit) was fitted new in 2007.Has anyone else experienced problems with running on what is probably an aging battery and would anyone know from the readings shown if the battery is stuffed? Could the battery be the source of my unusual problem? If it is shot, I would appreciate recommendations for a new battery, as Super Cheap Auto have motorcycle batteries in stock but they are not the sealed type and I would have thought that to be the better option? Thanks in anticipation of any help and guidance. I have checked the electrics generally and found a couple of oxidised couplings etc and tried the ignition switch leads, but they don’t cause any problems?Cheers,Mike ???

Hi,Update on my battery problem. I fitted a new battery over the weekend but found that when I asked any bike shop for a quote on a 19ah 12V battery for a 1999 BMW R850R all of the batteries offered were not correct on size for fitting in the battery carrier ???The batteries offered were either Motobatt or Yuasa and the length and width of both batteries would not have fitted in the battery carrier, so I got in contact with Experiance BMW and they offered me a BMW battery or a Diamec battery (the same as the one that I took out), but eventually I found a Century battery no maintenance sealed type 12V 19ah at super cheap and it is exactly the right size.I got it fitted on Sunday and all seems OK now  😀Cheers,Mike
