Can anyone recommend a battery charger suitable for charging a battery for a R1200RT via the accessory socket? The BMW charger is $230 but I thought there must be a cheaper equivalent out there.

I did some research when I got my 1200 GS.  There do seem to be some out there that work but nothing came up with a guarantee so I bit the bullet and bought the BMW charger.  When you consider how much you pay for the bike I guess the price is not that bad and you wouldn't want to stuff up the canbus would you  😐Malcolm

If you're not married to charging it through the socket, there are plenty of sub-$100 chargers that will do the trick.  I use a BatteryDoc that I got for$90 at Motomail.  It has a short pigtail that directly wires to the battery, with a quick connector at the other end.  Just as easy as the accessory socket, and you don't need to switch off, switch on, connect, switch off, click your heels and cross your fingers to get it to work!DTY

Yep, we've been through this before. If your using an aftermarket charger make sure you hook it direct to the battery, otherwise you'll fry the Canbus system.
