Hey, look what I have!3106575042_e0b2cbac84_b.jpgI went out to Woodhill to test ride the G450X today, and had a chance to ride them back to back.  The BMW is really good through the midrange, but lacks the torquey low-down punch of the KTM.  The KTM also seems to have a quicker, more direct throttle response.  I don't know if this is due to the fuel injection, but there was a little hesitation getting on the gas.  The BMW is deceptively quick.  I think that could be due to the rear suspension doing the job a little better.3105740965_25e3fd2b87_b.jpg3106573776_1fdcf08e86_b.jpgToday was my first time on the KTM with the dirt wheels on, and it was exciting to use the bike for its intended purpose.  It's miles ahead of the last dirt bike I rode, an old XR650.  The switch only took about an hour.  Gravel ride, anyone?DTY

Thanks for the report.  Aren't there too many trees around to use any of the power of these bikes? I am always up for a ride. I just need to have a look at the clutch lining of the R80, get the seals on the gearbox changed and the universal joint on the drive shaft repaired and try to figure out if the clunk I still have is anything to worry about, then I can reassemble it. While that's happening I am restricted to riding the R1150 on gravel. Those tyres aren't road legal anyway, so you'll have to take the /5  😀

Sounds like you had fun Dave, and if it's miles ahead of an XR650 it must be a mean machine as they were a real beast of a bike.

Dave, I'm up for grqavel or off road rides. My bike is kitted with road legal knobblies so off road shouldn't be an issue. I did remove the rim locks though because I couldn't afford the dental bills they would create.  I also figured I'm a little slower, less likely to look for deep mud and therefore wouldn't need the rim locks for this set of tyres.I had intended to get into Woodhill with my kids this last weekend. The kids just weren't ready enough so it was a case of watching them ride around our local school. It was a good Sunday.

Dave I never got the BMW 450 out of first gear on the trails. Did you try the 450 with the extra power

I wouldn't know if it had the power pigtail installed or not.  They didn't say and I forgot to ask.  It was down on power against the KTM, but I don't know if that was just due to the displacement difference, stock pipe, power pigtail, who knows.  Nice bike though!

They've got at least three of those sitting at Experience waiting for owners. As soon as the lotto comes through, one will follow me home.

Once the house interior up grade is completed I may have a look again. Did you see BMW have drop the 650 X Challenge to 13k now.

For a brand new bike, or for the demo models?

Apparently only until December 24 the XChallenge is $12995 and the XMoto is $10990. New. Don't know if the XCountry is reduced in price as well.I wonder if the G650GS will appear in NZ, and if so at what price?

Those are pretty good prices. I  hope they sell lots. Is the Xmoto the supermoto style bike? That used to be the most expensive of the three.
