Today has been one of those exceptional days when everything seems to fall into place.1.Experience have sorted the electrics on the 1150.2.My meeting in Auckland has finally been confirmed for tomorrow morning, which means I get a free one way ticket to pick up the bike.3.One of my cousins from the UK is here on holiday, and will be staying somewhere in Roturua on Saturday.Sorted.So on the spur of the moment, I thought I'd ask if anyone on the OR can suggest somewhere “nice to spend tomorrow evening (Friday). I'm hoping to escape Auckland late afternoon, and after a long meeting I wouldn't want to be on the bike for much over a couple of hours.I know it's short notice, but and recommendations would be gratefully received.CheersJohn
I suppose you'll want something on the way North? Otherwise there is a nice Motel at Kariotahi Beach, that's past Waiuku. I saw a really rugged looking R1150GS at Experience, looked like it hadn't been clean since new. Was that yours?
Thanks Alex,Kariotahi Beach looks like it might fit the bill.Rugged, eh? That's a new one on me 😀If it was filthy dirty and more than a little rough round the edges, then yes it was mine. Unfortunately, the electrics packed up on Mike the American just as he was heading back north, so it hasn't been cleaned since he started his road trip.On the subject of heading back north, I was planning to do the trip up on Sunday. I've got all day to do the trip, so it shouldn't be too stressful.
The bike looked like it had been parked under a bird's nest for too long, it also sported an impressive looking insect collection in the oil cooler. I am not sure what we'll be up to on Sunday, otherwise I would say drop in on your way home. If the weather is miserable on Sunday we will be home and you should come in for a cup of coffee or a beer :-).
Well, that was a grand weekend, all in all.The meeting on Friday finished earlier than I'd hoped, so I made it to Whitianga on Friday evening, Roturua on Saturday, and home on Sunday. However, I must be getting soft because I'm still shattered after the 500 k sprint up north on Sunday.Saw a few guys out there on BM's over the weekend, so if you got a wave from a bloke on a filthy 1150 GS with Givi side cases, it would have been me.
