Time for a new avatarThe K1200R is a GREAT bike.  It's mean, it's cool, it's got the tech, it's got the power, it's got the street cred, but it weighs a tonne.  It sounds awesome, it has pavement-peeling torque, it most DEFINITELY hoons, but it's 5m long (c)Cade, 2007.  So, while it does some things very well, it can't do it all.  Therein lies the rub.  What could be a better bike for track days/club rides/hooning/touring/posing/intimidating than the ol' K12R?  6 different bikes I guessI had been considering a number of different bikes, but had never considered more than just ONE. When the tonne of bricks finally hit me; wow, the possibilities!  Fast, slow, light, heavy, new, old.  Hmm, which two...Long story short:  The K12R willl be passed on to it's loving new owner on Sunday.  A beautiful, shiny, reliable, comfortable and classy 1976 R75/6 will arrive on Wednesday, and a mad, edgy, twitchy, feather-light uncomfortable KTM cornering machine will arrive Tuesday. Can't wait.DTYPS. Alex - the good news is the Katoom comes with an extra set of wheels with knobbies!

Woah, that's big news. The R75/6 is a great bike and the KTM is a bit of a hoon machine. Hope you won't get sick of changing the tyres. This will give me an excuse to take the R80 out to club rides :-), even with the knobblies on. I am keen to get it back on the road. My second throttle cable is now in the mail and I've got all the parts to rebuild the Bings this weekend. I am looking forward to it. I have had the pleasure to do that trail ride in Woodhill forest with a friend. I now know that I also need a hot little 250. But I'll have to wait for a while. Anyway, congratulations on the new rides. Alex

Just a photo I took at the dealer today.  They're going to attach all the road legal bits – indicators, mirrors, rego plate etc. and swap the wheels out for motard ones.  Also going to dial in the suspension for my weight, “How much? Oh, yes I see.  Are you sure you don't like the new 990?”2614903669_f670024986_b.jpgWhen is the 450 due?DTY

It is part of the deal.  It comes with both sets of wheels, and I'm really excited about doing some dirt riding again!

I bought it from a nice guy in Christchurch named Brian.  You may have seen it on trademe a couple of weeks ago.

Did they throw in a KTM pillow for the seat? I know they make a KTM toaster, so I am sure they'll have the pillows.

Nice bike. So is that the 530 EXC-R. I've been out on the Suzuki 250 thinking it's a bit underpowered (more when getting to where you're going off road). So I've been looking at the range of bikes a little bigger and noticed the Suzuki DR650 was incredibly cheap. With one selling last week on trademe black, 2007 a few thousand km's and $6,000.I liked the KLR 650 but thought it was too heavy. Is it just the extra fairing that adds the kilos. The KTM looks like the perfect machine. If you're planning an offroad stint let me know I'd be keen to head out. I'll still probably be on the 250 still figuring out what to do. I also need to reduce bikes not add to them. The motard option was an interesting thought. So you'll have the KTM out on track days?Congrats on the new bike it looks stunning.

Thanks Des!Yes, this will become my new track bike.  I don't think it will be good for much past 180-190, but It's the tight cornering I'm excited about.I would like to do some dirt rides though.Dave
