So, summing up:The G450X is the ONLY non-Japanese, emissions-compliant, road-legal racing bike (with aftermarket chainguard fitted), available in white, which may or may not have the same problems that other racing bikes have, that's not quite double the cost of some other bikes that aren't 450s.The BMW wins again! And we're using the term "available" loosely, aren't we!

Dave you are always correct 😀

The comparison obviously excludes your bike as well. The BMW wins again!

You are geeting good. You could get even better 😉 The BMW 450 has the k1200 fuel injection The other bikes do not have fuel injection at this stage 🙄

Hmm.  Not helping your case for keeping the costs down and turning out a bug-free bike.

Hang on, are you sure about the lack of fuel injection in other bikes. I thought the Husky's were injected at least. What about the new KTM's? And the Aprillia is a fine looking bike.I think the BMW colour scheme could do with a tweak on the 450. White just shows the dirt too easily. Okay so many of them won't see too much dirt but still. I'd like black I think. Or even BMW yellow with black. You'll have to get BMW to put on an instruction day for off road riding. Now that they have a decently capable off road bike coming a day / weekend in the bush would just cap it off nicely.

The Yamaha is also available in normal blue but also in white too but must admit I still like the blue best, white shows the dirt and all the scratches.I wonder who copied who ?????  🙄

This is a BM forum so I guess Yamaha copied BMW.Dean the guy that set up the F800 forum has also set up a G450 forum. Of course it's a little quiet right now but...  it may be an interesting source given time.http://g450riders.org/forum/

BMW Australia is not and will not spend any money in NZ. They have stopped all sponsorship events and return to riding. Experience has talked about for years having some bike training.

If BMW are serious about this machine as a serious extreme enduro machine then they should get behind a serious extreme enduro rider on it flying the flag around the globe.Chris Birch springs to mind. BMW spending no money in NZ? Do they make money from here? How do BMW riders feel about this lack of investment / contribution to the local scene.

They are, and they already have some top riders. Simo Kirssi is riding it in various competitions. Joel Smets and Sascha Eckert have also been involved. Do a Google search for G450X and Kirssi and you'll find a number of articles and videos. However, I can't really see why BMW have developed this bike. It must be competing with some Husqvarna product, and would have fitted better with the Husqvarna range. I'd rather have seen the money spent on improving and developing the F, R and K bike ranges.

So is this a case of BMW expanding the range as KTM did or more a case of BMW losing their way? I would have thought it better to invest in produsing a product that was idiosyncrasy deficient.

I think the idea is to attract younger riders to the marque. However, in this case, it may be wishful thinking as young and money do not all that often go together. The other problem is, that they are not supplying the bike with a fold-out ladder. This will somewhat limit its appeal to people with standard leg length. A bit of extra weight will help compress the suspension, but I've seen Henry get on a X-Challenge and it wasn't really cool to look at. I can imagine situations where you'd wish that the ground was just a little bit closer, just before you hit the ground. They have not yet announced the seat height, but I am guessing it will be north of 900mm.

The bike is 121kgs it has high ground clearance. When you ride a trail bike you only have one foot on the ground. You can lower the bike down the front forks. Some do this to the racing bikes. This will make the bike turn fasterAs for the cost the kids parents will buy these bikes for the dedicated riders if they prove to be good bikes. If you are looking for the BM 450 riders its as easy as looking on this site. I think it is great BMW moving away from run of the mill bikes they have built.Husqvarna is a independent run company or should Experience be selling Husqvarna. We are talking about BMW Australia cancelling the return to riding plus the adventure rides as well road rides. There will be one BMW sponsored 450 racing bike here. It is the first bike to arrive and Dean from Experience is the rider.http://www.motorcycle.com/manufacturer/bmw/2009-bmw-g450x-review-82228.htmlseat 37.6-inches (955mm)above ground. Dave can probably answer this one but aren't US Gallons smaller. So could it be a case of either lost in translation or they have smaller litres as well. I'm just curious and I have no idea.

I wouldn't call moving away from German built boxer engines towards Chinese built singles, as breaking new ground. But you are right, diversity is a good thing.

The engine they say is built in Taiwan. I've been told there are better controls there for manufacturing. This is a democratic country so I don't have a problem with this. All of BMW small car engines are built in EnglandHow many parts on all BMW bikes are built in China. I am totally against this and there should be tariffs on all  import Chinese made products.
