Obviously everybody looked out the window and said, “No thank you, very much,” without referring to Met Service's website. Four bold bikers rolled out of the Service Centre at about 0905 following Campbell on the Repsol Replica, and with Bikeless Bwucie and the Librarian in the Waka Holden as TEC.It had stopped drizzling, although there wasn't much sign of the road drying under the overcast, but sometimes you have to suffer these wee stressers for your science. The only incident on the first leg to Taste Bud Cafe, opposite the Thames Airfield, was the plonkers from Auckland Chapter of H.O.G. overtaking our riders at the bottom of the Bombay Hill, managing to overlap ALL our bikes on the turn off to SH2, then continuing to overtake on the painted median, and then across the double yellows. And the goober-brained neanderthals wonder why we pour piss on Harley riders? Anyhoo, they caused us no harm, as they cotinued their quest for their own, personal Darwin Awards. From Thames, Kevin and the K1300R (Boy! That bike is ugly. It's gone so far out the far side of ugly it looks amazing - how do BMW and Triumph manage to do that so often? I like it!) led the way to Coromandel, where the Waka Holden chose to lunch at Umu, and the bikes followed suit.Bwucie and the Librarian had the mussel burgers for lunch - primo! Bwucie discovered that if he stuck the mega toothpick that had been holding the burger together in his hat, and ate facing Mecca, he could hear the Concert Program through his gold crowns on his choppers. After lunch Campbell led the charge over the hill to the Ice Cream Challenge - by now, as the image shows, the weather was really bad.By the time we reached the Kuaotunu Store, the weather was truly dreadful: howling gale, crashing surf pounding across the roads, snow, sleet, awful. NOT.Tour Leader Campbell suffered a major malfunction of the ice cream cone variety, but boldly soldiered on after fielding a very slick catch in the slips. And then, homewards. More lovely roads spoiled by the horrible weatherThe Librarian and I abandoned the lads after the second camera run between Kuaotunu and Whitianga, and I came straight home and I FINALLY finished rebuilding bmwor.org.nz - for better or worse, what you see there is what you get - a finish to a great day out worthy of another beer, which I'm right now having.Next year, folks, take the time to check the weather forecast, 'cos you missed a good ride today.

Been laid low with a wee sciatica problem – being a pain in the bum…leg and dead foot! Therefore not much long distance riding on the menu! – I hope that all will be better before Tony's ride south next month. Keep smilling everyone – Im sure the weather will keep improving!!!

However Mr serious ear ache and sore throat visited me at around 10pm and kept me awake most of the night and by morning I was in no fit state to go balancing hundreds of Kilos on 100mm of rubber at 100 KPH.Great pictures as usual Bruce, sorry to see you are still without a steed.RegardsRincewind

How wrong I was! Nice day and a shame that there wasn't a better turn out. Also I doubt there's a mussel burger this side of the Bombays that would be safe in your presence! It's Gr83briding!
