Sometimes I think those who determine road names are trying to have a bit of fun, and possibly creating a few puzzles at the same time. Not far off SH29 in the Lower Kaimai area there is a short road with a couple of sharp corners called Dyer Straight.Off Maungatautari Rd there is a no-exit road called Luck At Last Rd.And at Waiotahi, within about 4km of each other, are two roads that seemed quite appropriate for my new avatar. Looney Rd and Toones Rd.No doubt there are many other examples in various parts of the country.

In my travels I have seen a number of Soldier Roads around the North Island at least. I understand these are indicate where returning soldiers were given land (or bought land at a very good price) to repatriate back into civilian life as a farmer after the war.
