This is another run that got gazzumped by the weather, it's been extended a bit to allow for (hopefully) a kinder climate and daylight saving.Leaving Southbound Motorway Service Centre, SH1 Papakura at 0930 (from outside Maccas/Autobahn). Heading to Whangamata for lunch, then via Waihi to Golden Cross in the Waitekauri Valley (an Arne recommendation). There's lots of info on the internet for anyone that wants to do some homework, this is just one site (clearly written by a fanboy in danger of breaking his arm patting himself on the back): http://www.minerals.co.nz/html/green_from_gold/gx.html. I hate to sound like a Tory, but if what they're trumpeting about this site is mostly true, maybe we could exploit some of the country's minerals without stuffing up the whole country and causing our grandchildren to glow in the dark. (Yes, I can hear the Green Taliban sneaking up on me!)

I will try to be at the start of this run tomorrow morning to help you punters organise yourselves, I will be a non-participant.I became the meat in the sandwich between two cages this morning, one stationary at a pedestrian crossing, as was I, and one moving at a fair old clip that shunted the Sex Toy into the other car. The dunken b***h driving the people mover then hit the car she'd pushed me into and tried to do a runner - all this at 0900 in the morning. When I eventually came round, got my wits back, oriented myself and persuaded my first aiders to let me get up under my own steam and walk over to what was left of my bike and shut down the motor, I realised I wasn't feeling too flash. Shortly thereafter, I walked into the back of the first meat wagon to arrive without argument, a personal first. Musta been crook.Middlemore have now let me go, after realising they won't find brain damage on a brainless person. Huge thanks to Team Foley for providing transport home: the Librarian only holds a bike license, so she had to ring round to get in touch with International Rescue, who did the biz - F.A.B.I don't think the bike will be repaired, from what I saw of it, so it could be a 650 V-Strom is in the offing, or maybe I'd like a 650 Hyosung? We will see. :'( :'( :'(

wow Bwucie  !!  That sounds like a very lucky escape. Not so lucky for the Sex Toy though but bikes are replaceable. So pleased to hear that you are OK and look forward to catching up with you tomorrow

Pretty sure I used all my luck up yesterday morning, Malcolm. Nobody has the right to come out of a two car sandwich as lightly as I have: a bike and a helmet is a very small price to pay for the ride. This morning doesn't feel flash, but it's only bruising, and will go in a couple of weeks. I can get around reasonably well with the help of my Leki sticks (They don't have the rubber feet on at the moment, 'cos I was last using them on rock: I hate to think what they are doing to my polyurethane floors.)I did buy a Lotto ticket, but after walking up to vote didn't feel like carrying on anymore, so I did that online, where I have just confirmed that I am, the same as yesterday morning, a loser. 🙁

I am Glad you are OK (well almost) Bwucie. The DL650 is a very nice bike and much more useful, if you are planning to hang out with the cool k…. I mean the Adventure crowd, like Malcolm does :-). As far as the election goes, I am happy with the outcome and I haven't checked my Lotto ticket yet. *edit* the lotto ticket bombed , but I got to ride some gravel as compensation and I managed to clean the bikes.

Gee Bwucie.  Sounds like you really were the meat in the sandwich.  Also sounds like one less R1100S on the road, we always were a rare bunch. The V-Storm is a good machine, Go for it.

Talking of DL650s I was in Holeshot Suzuki today and they have a very nice demo for sale just over 11 grand, or an 06 for 10.  ::)

Let's not count our chickens before they hatch! First, I only lasted two hours at work today before my noggin reminded me I had a hiding and I had to head back home, and who knows how long a decent tap on the bonce-box will last. Second, the eleven-hundy was covered for “current market value”, so I might not get even enough to upgrade my pushbike.Might be a 250 Hyosung, not the flash 650 with the bikini, let alone a V-strom. And I would have to test ride a V-strom, 'cos my back doesn't do to well on "sit up and beg" machines.

    I was in Holeshot Suzuki

That sounds like a personal problem, Malcolm, which I have cured myself of. Unfortunately for Jean and me Haldanes are no longer dealers: the Haldane Suzuki experience (for us, anyway) was waaaaaay better than Colemans or Holeshot.I'll go South, to Pukekohe, if I go Suzuki, which I'd like to do (my preferred brand, over the years). Dollars may well mean I go South to Takanini for a Korean cheapie. Whatever I buy, it'll either be new or I won't bother - I'm tired of inheriting problems, though I have no objection to creating my own.

Sorry Bruce, didn't want to burden you with my problems, you have enough of your own.
