Excellent accommodation, $30pp; a cut above backpackers standard. Regularly patronised by logging truckies who provide lively discussions around the dinner table. Manager (Roy) is a very capable chef who whistles up humungus gourmet meals to meet instant demands from his apparently never-ending menu. Beds include electric blankets. Bathroom facilities very good & plentiful. Bikes semi-secure in rear yard (six were there when we stayed) – Two logging trucks parked in the roadway were 'fired up' at 0230 to join the never-ending stream of logging trucks heading to-and- from Gisborne wharf. Tolaga Bay is almost a ghost town “now that the police have closed down the main industry (drug cultivation)” says the self-appointed 'mayor'.
