This morning I got some pay-back for the considerable amount I pay to ACC every year. I went along to the ACC/Auck Transport “Ride to Work” event at Northcote. Thanks to Neko for spreading the word about this. I picked up a coffee (real coffee too) a Hot Cross Bun and a muesli bar. By my calculations that was about $8 value I've now received for all those ACC levy's. Malcolm did a little better than me. He had two cups of coffee with his HC Bun, and I suspect that he slipped a banana into his riding pants although I wouldn't want to speculate too much on that. They catered for around 150 bikers to show up, but there had been only about 15 by the time we left at 7.30 They were probably a little over optimistic given the amount of promotion the event had. Neko seemed to be their best PR person. But I applaud them for being proactive and doing something to raise awareness of biker safety, even in a small way. They have loads of Hi-Viz vests to give away in all sizes. A lady from Auckland Transport gave me her card and said that if I know anyone who would like a vest, to just send in their address. Anyone who would like her e-mail to request a vest or vests please let me know. The best thing for me was that as a result of this event, I rode my bike to work today. And because my work is 60km away on open roads, that was a treat 🙂
Well done. That will teach them. I still think people didn't come, because they didn't want their bikes turned into scooters, after having had a cup of coffee. I guess they can now afford to give away stuff, considering the income they generate.

It's the morons who drive with inadequate skills and lack of regard for other road users who are THE Problem. How about they address the real problem with some REAL driver training and education??
