The Second Traditional S. Bell Ice Cream Challenge is done and dusted.  This year Klingon James, who set a world record for tidy disposal of a rapidly Chernobylling cone with no drips in the first challenge went for the Big Kahuna Kuaotunu Killer.  And failed.  He put it all away, and lowered his core body temperature almost to hypothermic levels thereby, but it was a messy display, and the extra mass he took on board broke one of the chairs on the deck outside the shop.Full credit to the ref, it was a fine display, and ice cream was the winner on the day.  Kerry and Rob, insert photos below, please! This year we went t'other direction to last year, with a cuppa at Thames and lunch at Coromandel.  (The theory behind this was to build a bigger gap between lunch and ice cream - it worked.)  Team Brodie joined us for some of the run, and at other times they went in various directions on their twin F800 chook-chasers doing their own thing.  Campbell left us at Coromandel to head for home, all other participants hung on in the convoy. Rain (where did that come from?) started at Thames and continued almost all the way round to the Matarangi turnoff, but only enough to wet the road and slow proceedings down a bit.  Well, it slowed me down; I had put a bit more air in the back tyre of the eleven-hundy to allow for my pillion, but she was so tiny it worked out to be too much, and I had a couple of minor squirrelly moments over the Te Kouma hill.We met up with Rincewind and Barbara, his child bride, at Kuaotunu, then headed back through Whitianga (fuel), Tairua (potties), Kopu, Pipiroa (more coffee) and home.  On drying roads there was some good riding from Whitianga to Kopu.  My Klingon pillion, Nelia, is still on her learners licence, which is why she wasn't on her own machine for a long ride.  Because I was trying to set a good example for a learner I managed to stay alert and precise, which had the effect of making me a bit quicker than I would probably be in my normal semi-dormant persistent vegetative state.  Nelia denied being terrified, but did confess to shutting the eyes a few times.  Bwucie, aged terrorist  😮Yet another good day out with ice cream.  My thanks to Rob and the Red Baron for TEC duties, and to Jacqui for managing to come up with the day's greatest perversion of the truth, asserting it was my fault she blew the tendon on her thumb because her other half was out on one of my rides and wasn't home to open her pickled onions.  Fair go, yer 'onner, that's harsh.

Indeed a great out with a great bunch of bikers. The “rain” was very light, hardly shower strength really and only served to sharpen our skills for wet road riding which we will no doubt need in the months ahead. If anyone is in any doubt that James deserves to be S. Bell Ice Cream Challenge Champ again please see evidence below. kuaotunuchallenge.jpgModified by Bwucie:This is what happens to the store's patio furniture when you have too much ice cream on board -

There is no doubting our world famous Coro Loop is just as good in either direction. I bet James “the legend” Klingon must have been relieved that Bwucie managed after two attempts to find Kuaotunu. I'm sure he had been in serious training all year to avoid defeat at the hands of a Rookie. Mammoth effort James – I've sent an email to Lizzie to include you in next years honours list. Once again big Enzo enjoyed the Hikuai-Kopu Road and has already arranged a leave pass for next season. On a sad note, Frau “Titewhai” Baron had been upset by the admission of our beloved leader that he deliberately brakes harder for Cuban pillions than those from the Fatherland. However Bwucie did console her by adding there was only 3 inches in it.Big thanks to RIC and both TEC's - I think the second TEC was the more competent by a kg or two (yeah right) !!!Cheers,Herr and Frau Baron
