One for the computer guru'sWhen I log in and go to connect, it always logs me in with my name etc, however about 50% of the time when I then go to "read unread posts since last visit " it will welcome me as a guest and invite me to sign in and enter a password which I do, but why should this happen and only some of the time ??????   ???

Jim, without visiting and watching what's actually happening, I would only be guessing.  Pick whichever explanation you want to run with, or make one up on your own.If you are using Internet Explorer, then the page probably loads from cache, so it looks like you are connected, but your Microsoftware is still dicking around adjusting the seats, mirrors, etc, and trying a bit of choke.  Then when you try and change from the first page, Internet Explorer will finally wake up and realise it needs to do something that isn't in your cache. If you are using Firefox or Google Chrome, I wouldn't really have a clue, because I certainly can't duplicate the behaviour, so all my other explanations have been torpedoed - except, depending on your security settings, your computer may not be storing the BMWOR cookie (I'm reasonably certain our forum only sets one cookie.)  Without the cookie, the Forum won't recognise you at home because you will have a dynamic IP address assigned by your ISP, and it won't know that IP.  This may not happen at work, where the IP is often static.Short version is I'm durned if I know, so that makes us a pair, eh?

Thanks Bwucie,But it all seems too hard for a computer dumbo like me so I will just carry on as is saying a few words under my breath when it asks me to do it  ::)

Hehe, I thought I'd better fix that.I am using Chrome and it works fine. However, I hadn't even spotted that function before. I guess I am with Steve then  ;D

There is another very useful function that is not so obvious, from the Home page, scroll right to the bottom and in the “Forum Stats” panel there is a link to “View the most recent posts on the forum”

It would be possible to reduce the security level on the Forum, in which case your problem might go away – for the three days or so it would take spammers to completely destroy it, as they have done to very many other forums.I suggest we all continue to run with what is only a minor niggle, yes?[hr]

That is the page I have set as my bookmark entry for the Forum, and for those who haven't yet done so, if you go to the Forum "Home", then login, click on "Profile", then in "Modify Profile" click "Look and Layout Preferences", and tick the radio button (in the screenshot below) to show the last post at the top, which is real handy in some of our popular (more verbose?) posts.Screenshot-Profile-LookandLayoutPreferences-Chromium.png
