Mr Rusty Knutz went to Taupo for the AGM.The day was flawless.Taupopano.jpgThe ape encountered el Editorro wetting his whistle before minuting the meeting.PA160005.jpgAnd checked out the (now immediate past) el Presidente's laptop presentation.PA160006.jpgBefore meeting Lance: is that a family resemblance?00002.jpgI don't want to gazzump Garry's next newsletter, which will have the minutes and all our reports (I say "our" because we Area Reps had to contribute our two cents' worth), but we have a new President, Peter Tibbs, and Secretary, David Thomson, and they are NOT from Auckland!Rob Hargreaves will go down in the history of the Register as the "President Who Let The Committee Leave Auckland", and it is not the end of life as we know it. After all, if you are reading this, then you woke up this morning and you were still alive, which is, I submit, way more important to you than where the BMWOR Committee Meeting is held.Peter Tibbs assured the meeting he would be an inclusive President, and would be travelling and consulting widely whilst in the role.  And he clearly understands that if he cocks it up he will be staked, naked and covered in golden syrup, over an anthill at the next AGM.For Aucklanders, hireage of our venue is still in place for some time, so our meetings will continue in the Vintage Car Clubrooms for now.  You will no doubt want to attend next month to discuss Bwucie's future: do you want me to continue as Area Rep now that the job will become far more significant as your voice to "lobby BMWOR Bullshit Castle Executive on your behalf; do you want to replace me as Rep but keep me as Road-Ride Meister; do you want to form a small ad-hoc committee to look after the largest group of BMWOR members in the country (my personal favourite); and what format will our meetings take in future?Rusty and I congratulate Team Wellington and wish them luck, and assure them of our personal support and willingness to advance the profile of the Register in Auckland any way we can.

Well, Malcolm, that's not exactly a lot out of you, either. But you are right, I can do better :-).First of all, thanks to Rob and his team for the excellent work they have done during this term. Rob has probably been the most proactive President since I've been a member of the Register.Next, congratulations to the incoming President and Secretary, may they continue to lead the Register into a sustainable future. Finally, I don't really care where the Register executive is located. For me it's about the riding, the people I meet while riding and the bikes. There were only a handful of people at the monthly meeting that I had any riding interest in common with.  Most never turned up while I was Area Rep., and most seem to not turn up now, either. In other words, not much has changed for me. The Register events will carry on as before, hopefully, and we will continue to be able to meet all sorts of interesting people from around the country. The fortnightly rides are more important to me than the monthly meetings.  Due to current time constraints, I seem to miss most of those, too. I'll make an effort to be at the next Auckland Area meeting, it's bound to be a good one :-).

Clearly "Hmmmm" is the sound of someone thinking in German, because Alex certainly captured my thinking pretty well with his follow up post.A further assurance that it ain't the end of the world for Auckland would be the fact that we still have two members of the Executive in Auckland, Jean and Rob, as Treasurer and Immediate Past President, so we have three direct lines to the Executive, if you include the Area Rep "offering advice to Central Government", which sounds much grander than "lobbying".And as has so often been made plain, any member of the Register can attend and address any meeting of the Register: to do so now holds the possibility of a more extended and interesting ride than just across town.
