Maybe some of you will enjoy the following pictures. We spent and afternoon in France and were told to go and see two delightful little towns. Equisheim is more of a village and is just south of Colmar (Alsace), while Riquewhir, north of Colmar has a more town like feel to it. What is so special about these places you ask? Well see for your self. Both towns are on the French side of the Rhine Valley, in the middle of the wine region.It started to become more interesting after this point.Follow me for a walk around the perimeterEquisheim was infested with Storks.This was a full loop. Love them. The streets are straight out of a fairy tale book. Any idea on the age of the houses?Oh yes more photos please.

The centres of these towns a virtually intact. Every single house has been restored, at least on the outside. It's not a museum. The houses are up to 450+ years old. It was one of the highlights of our trip and we only found out about the towns when we told some friends that we wanted to drive into France for half a day. I was going to write “across the border”, but there wasn't one. Heck, not having to chance money over was a real bonus.

Nice photos Mr K. – looks like a beautiful place to visit and oh so close to home too. Now that you also have Neko's attention, organise the tour and include Herr and Frau Baron.

Funny you should say that :-). I've thought about it. But the fickle weather and the logistics of it all make it too daunting. You could easily spend 2-3 weeks riding around southern Germany, France and Italy.

Brilliant, Alex! Eguisheim was a favourite place where my (late) Uncle Franz from Bodensee (Lake Konstance) used to buy wine - from one family run wine-maker. I / we have been there 4 times since 1998 - and would go again in 'ein moment'! Love the storks nesting high - we have some photos of this too! The doors in the village indicate that people must have been 5 ft tall or less in those days! It's really cool that the townsfolk speak French and German fluently (with bits of English), too. Great pics Alex, the sun looks wonderful and I can just feel it on my back 😆 Some beautiful old buildings of the sort we just don't have here. Unfortunately a lot of the older ones we do have in Christchurch are seriously threatened right now and may not be here when you get home.Actually I didn't realise you were away as you will see when you check your mail 😐take careMalcolm and Jean
