    Hi gang 🙂Well I have to say that having fabbed up and fitted bar risers and peg-lowering blocks I am VERY happy with the 850... now for the seat!This is the first Beemer I have owned where I have not found the seat to be ideal... it seems to come up too much at the front, bit like a horse saddle I suppose, and causes "pressure points" where I'd rather it didn't!Now I am NOT going to take out another mortgage to go buy some over-priced custom job from the USA so, has anyone modificed their seat? I have found a brilliant web site that details the best method for doing this yourself but wondered if anyone had already modded an R1100R or 850R seat and what exactly you changed??for anyone interested the web site is:  http://www.diymotorcycleseat.com/index.phpcheersTracy

    Hi Tracy,I have a 1999 R850R and have modified the riders seat (not the pillion) I found that I was sliding about in my seat - maybe the previous owner had polished the vinyl and I agree with the pressure points bit too :-o.I was going to go to the company in the mount (rider?) where they do Corbin style modifications, but I found a car upholstery guy in Hamilton and when I went to see him he was doing an old Ferrari and a Porsche restoration, so I figured he must be good.I now have a basket weave cover on the rider’s seat (only) and had the foam changed for new and some high tech stuff. He did say that I could use gel instead of foam but the cost was quite different, so I went with the foam and am pleased with the total job and now I dont slide around!I can email you some photo's if you like and details of the upholstery guy if need be?Cheers,Mike

    Check these folk out:http://www.trimit.co.nz/index.htmI had a R1200C seat redone and slightly modified and was very happy with the result. Cost $350 in 2003.

    Yep. Mine's a “Rider” seat too. (Re; the second entry above.) My cost included a courier return and I waited exactly a week. I did mention I had no transport – could they work on it when they received it. Service and craftmanship was good.

    Hi Tracy,When I said I was going to go to the company in the mount (rider?) where they do Corbin style modifications - Trimit was the company that I was thinking of. They quoted me $630 to do my seat, but that did include the pillion seat as well, where as I only did my own seat.Pictures attached as promised and from memory, I paid $140 for my seat mods.Cheers,Mike

    Hi Tracy,When the upholsterer removed the original vinyl cover, the foam had been glued directly to it (or vice versa), so he had to replace the foam and we kind of kept the original design but added a wee bit at the front and directly under  😉 - something like the link that you sent about adding for comfort.The foam he used was a different spec than the 10 year old stuff that was in there as well. Apparantly foam has come a long way since the day my seat was made!! 😮Cheers,Mike

    Hi Tracy,http://mastertrimltd.co.nz/ 17 Lake Road, Frankton, Hamilton 078469191.I cannot find the invoice he gave me but I am sure it was around $140. I actually phoned a few Motor trimmers in my area before I had the modification done and they all seemed to be around the same price, but this guy impressed me as he had a real nice Ferrari in the shop - so someone had a great deal of trust in him.Cheers,Mike
