After almost four years as Auckland Area Rep. I think it's time that someone else has a go. The position has been rewarding and challenging at the same time. It's a great excuse for having a ride, but make no mistake, it is also a time commitment. Currently we have one lunch ride and one register ride a month. There is of course an expectation to attend the monthly meeting in Penrose. I am sure all of this can be negotiated. You need a motorcycle, the ability to find a destination without getting lost too badly and a sense of humour. It also helps if you turn up to the rides :-).You should also write some sort of a report for the newsletter, or at least have the ability to con someone else into doing it. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. Pick a destination, tell people in advance when to turn up and then lead them the there. Should you need a stand in for a ride, there is always someone there to help out. Please let me know if you are interested.
I nominate Richard K. A good keen man and since he is new to Auckland a way for him to meet people.
Accepted! Congratulations, Richard. That's how Gerda got the secretary's job

Good on ya Steve and that will be your contribution eh
Come on guys, it's a glamorous job. 😀 I've done it for 3.5 years, what a great excuse to go riding.

So that could entail asking for volunteers to organise rides and assuming they meet some guidelines they select a destination and route for a specific date bearing in mind past destinations.I'd be up for the occassional ride organising and I think a few others might as well. Heck you could even have Arne or someone out of town organise a ride and all you need is someone to get the group to them.I know this isn't what you were looking for specifically but will it help in the interim. If so PM me and I'll have a look at the future dates.Dean may be up for one.I'd like to go on the Steven, guided by GPS ride. the motto could be "It's not about the destination, it's about the ride!".Actually as I think of this I start to wonder where some of these people would take us.What do you think Alex and what would the guidelines be? Distance, time to stops?

Still looking. At this rate there won't be any organized rides in 2010. I've just posted the last lot.
AnonymousGuest21/10/2009 at 8:54 amPost count: 2134Hmm, I just got my ten year badge, and haven't been very active at all in the Register – but I do have a fearsome reputation for mystery tours because I am programmed to, “Just see what's down this road.” Could be time to come out of self imposed retirement as “tour leader” and put something back to pay for all the advice and amusement I have had over the years from the rest of you via the newsletter and this forum. If you could handle the odd involuntary u-turn from time to time, and organise your own gravel rides, until I win Lotto and buy a little chook-chaser (the R-eleven-hundy ain't the flashest thing off-piste), I'd give it a nudge. Monthly reports? Just never let the truth get in the way of a good story, what else do you want in the way of qualification?
Cool, turn up at the next meeting, should be an interesting one anyway. Much appreciated, I think you'll be perfect for the job. I am sure Richard K. would be available to help as well. I've just posted the remaining rides, and I am happy to complete these. So your job wouldn't start until February anyway. As for U-turns, I think I've already trained them up for you. Well, a couple are still practicing. I think the main qualification is to have a motorcycle and to actually turn up for the rides. You can have my back catalog of rides, if only to remind yourself where not to go. You won't have any problems with the monthly reports as you write much more elogeuntly, elowquently, more betterer than me.I can do some of the gravel rides and adventure rides, and maybe even some classic bike rides. As long as the knobbies on the R80 aren't too new. You'll even get a key to the forum for posting rides.
