Just found this link in one of Gunnyrob's posting on Kiwibiker. Who would be keen to make up a group of 5. This is a half day course for adventure riders wanting to learn the secrets of off road riding. It is ideally suited to riders with bikes such as BMW GS,  KTM LC8 and DR650 who are wanting to explore their bikes (and their own) off road potential. The course takes in gravel road skills, sand, grass and mud around Auckland’s North West playgrounds. This course mixes theory and instruction with plenty of riding time. One on one, at a time that suits you or get a group together for discounted rates. Cost is $200 per person and can be booked at any time. Just email chris@birchy.co.nz Currently I’m taking bookings for groups and one on one coaching around the north island so please email at chris@birchy.co.nzI am very keen but may struggle to find the time before mid December.

Just got a reply from Chris. Sunday the 1st of November is available. If we can get five people or more it's $130 per person. We currently have 3/4 people interested, but I am not sure if this date suits them. Chris is pretty busy this time of the year. It will be "A mini adventure ride with stops at a couple of farms for some drills and some on trail instruction" according to Chris. Please express your interest here for the the 1st of November, preferably before the end of the week. I will have to confirm numbers by then.I am in!

We now have three people attending.  If you don't know who Chris Birch is, check out his website: http://www.birchy.co.nz/

Cool Malcolm. That makes four of us. I'll let Chris know we're all set. By the way, we just booked the ferry. $90 one way per rider and bike, with the discount.  Bluebridge is $100.

Thanks Alex, please keep me posted.  We too have booked on the Interislander cost $270 return for two plus the bike which is very reasonable.  I didn't realize we had to call a special group number 0800 878 898 but they were very helpful and we got sailings that were not shown as available on the web site when we looked.  Interesting that she said we must take our own tie downs (I do anyway) but never been told that before.

I guess by doing that they avoid complaints about the tie downs that they provide.

👿 Ahh you've seen them too Alex.  I tried using them once – we were sailing into the Tory Channel by the time I was tied down  😐

I'm keen too, Alex. I see in Kiwirider Mag that Birchy placed second in another Euro Enduro event - won on this occasion by Andreas (BMW rider), who placed 3rd at the Auckland City Scramble, after Chris's 2nd place. Peter GS

I'm keen for some training.. alot of stuff we learn along the way from our own mistakes. The better and more confident I can be when riding a GS, and loaded up, off the beaten track the better the rider I should be on the seal.

Sounds like there is more interest than expected. He may get in a second coach if that is the case.I just got back from the 4nd and Fishers track. Maybe I should have waited until after Chris' training  :-D.

Does anyone know were you can hire a trail bike for a day, or is able to lend one to Gerda? She wants to do the training as well, but her own bike is too big.

By the way, we are seven now, so the cost will be $130pp. I reckon that's the best money you can spend on bike related stuff, right up there with tyres and suspension.
